A good one that is suitable for all hawks / falcons then get a suitable transmitter.

Buy cheap - regret later, when you REALLY need it.

Jim.

Luksander have stood the test of time and seem better suited to the british climate as have heard of a few marshalls ones going tits up (altho on the whole marshals are good too)

either of them and you won't go far wrong..... if you buy **** it's gonna stink!

Luksander is well thought of, but a bit bulky and comes from the USA, best to buy direct from them and not from an "importer" better service and advice when you need it. Buy the best you can afford. The bird you want it for only matters when you come to the transmitter...you can't put a heavy transmitter on a little bird. If it is for a Harris then that is quite large so you should go for a long range that will last about 10 days continuous use, but again it is price, tho the transmitter prices dont vary much by size. New is best as you get a warranty, but a top manufacture, good second hand one will serve better than a cheap, little known new one. If you have a friend who is going to help with your flying and training (always the best option) then find out what they use. You can then get a transmitter and receiver that work on a similar frequency (but not the same channel) That way if either of you want to borrow a transmitter you can, or if the worst happens and a bird goes missing you can both head off in different directions using 2 receivers and double your chances of finding the bird quick. 217mz is often thought as best tho there is a "legal" side to this, but ...well....the bird comes first!!! Marshal, Falcon Electronics, Wild Life Tracking, Luksander will all send you the spec on what they sell. Also Fin Track did a real small pocket size receiver, some swear by it, I thought it wasn't very powerful, but I have since been proved wrong and wish I hadn't got rid of mine, tho it is a different frequency.

Well I have and use a Bio Track, I have the BT6 receiver and have a few different transmitters. 2 Bio Track transmitters and 1 Marshalls RT+.

First you need to decide how the transmitter is to be fitted, tail mount, leg mount or back pack; then you can look at what transmitter to go for..................................

hey SS i was thinking leg mount just because it seems the easiest method?

Only prob with the leg mount is there is a strong possibility of it getting in the way when the bird is hunting. Most people I know only use leg mounts on display birds. I tend to use the tail mount and have also used the back pack but went back to the tail.
Once the mount is fitted, putting on the transmitter shouldn't be a problem, especially with a HH. My HH, i just put under my arm with one hand, then clip the tranny in. Last year, he was happy to sit on the chair and let me do it..............

Sambo
21-01-2006, 10:52 PM
so you all recommend tail mounts then?

Tarqers
21-01-2006, 10:54 PM
but the laws have changed now you can only do it in the presents of other
hh,s,,,,tarqs

i used a single feather mount this year, asaposed to a plectrum, ande was moderatley impressed, but still would go for a plectrum next year,or may even try a back mount,,,,,,tarqs

i think tail mounts are best for hawks and huntingbirds.but i use leg mounts for displays

I use leg mounts on my Harris' near the end of the season so the 100quid antenna doesn't get moulted with the deck feathers..

I have resently got a MHH and i have bought a Luksander
216mhz Receiver and a 3 volt transmiter. It is very good especially with a quik fold yagi antena it makes life a lot easier.

Sometimes a tailmount can cause problems, maybe tape over clips?
