i went out with a male harris to the site to do some lure work in the hope that if still in the area she would see us and come over. i didnt hold out much hope as i thought that she would have been miles and miles away because of the gales we had been having. however, i saw nothing.
there was a lot of drissle and i was slowly getting soaked so decided to head off home having done what i came to do. i drove app' about a mile or two and was comming into a village (gartcosh), and saw what i thought was a crow on a lamp-post. i took no notice but as i passed under it i glimpsed some white on it. i hit the brakes and jumped out. it was ellie. i threw a dead rabbit to the ground and she was on it like the ellie i know and that was that. she was picked up, no fuss, no hassle. and she is now home. just one thing though. a wee wifey from the village had put out coocked ham slices to feed har and she had had a crop full. oh ****.
i called some more experience falconers and a vet to ask advise and was told to give her plenty of casting material in the form of wet rabbit fur to help with this problem.
(any further advise on this matter for future reference would be appreciated).
well. she is fed and watered and is doing ok. no injuries no forseeable problems.
she was found app' 1.5 - 2 miles (ATCF) away, up wind and the previous sighting on sunday appears to have been true as it wasnt far from here she was found. i dont understand why she wouldnt have come looking as there have been people all over the place swinging lures and whistling. she must have seen or heard them, however at 2lb 8oz she was perhaps a little stuffed to fly over. who knows., (greedy bitch).
now. i want to take this opportunity to thank a few people here. well a lot really. thanks to everyone who sent messages of support during the past week your comments and support was so much appreciated cheers.
thanks to the people at the IBR, and the guys at Dryburgh falconry centre, to brianm, stephen, andy rabbit, JB29, and a very special thanks to maxwell, who so selflessly gave up their free time (and some working hours i think) to help me look for a naughty harris which needs her **** kicked. thanks very much maxwell.(star).
last but not least, thanks to ellie for speeding up the balding and greying proccess and for the waking hours through the night. thanks ellie for instilling into me a rather long bad mood and temper ive not seen for ages. and of course for the aching gut which accompanies a lost bird. thanks ellie for the heartburn, heart ache, and depression which has lifted like a dark cloud on a bright day. thanks ellie, you bitch. (i love her really).
well, she is home and thats all that matters. thanks everyone, enjoy your hawking, best wishes, harrisii,
