I was recommended to use "half hard, bending-brazing quality" sheet brass and I never tried anything else. That produced good enough bells for my purposes.
I believe the original Pakistani bells were made out of old .303 cartridge cases. That would be very good brass.
But bells have always been made of brass or silver, now various copper alloys including Monel.

The thickness of the metal also has a great influence on the sound of the bells.
Sorry, but I have forgotten what thickness I used to use!

They are very good bells, nice crisp sound. I either use these or Nobles.
I've just had some off Dude that are very good quality also.
