Best day hawking ever, pretty long story, so if u cant be arsed reading just scroll down to the pics ::lol:
was planning to go up to some new permission but on the way i was gonna have a quick mooch on land i know, and head up to the new permission. so got out of the car and walked up the hill you can see on http://www.falconryforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=9158&highlight=rolf . was nice and sunny so i was sure there would be rabbits, rolf seen a rabbit and off he went up hill, but the rabbit was about a foot from its set. while in the air rolf spotted another rabbit and stopped, only the second stoop ive seen him do now, and i ran like the hammers, found him standing outside another set lol. so decided to walk on into the fields and tried a set u put 2 rabbits out of before xmas. in goes the ferret and i stood well back, close to the hedge, and a rabbit runs out from under my feet, rolf drops on it but doesnt connect, and then runs on the ground through the bush ,to be meet with another hole and no bunny. I didnt know that the set was this big lol, thought there were 2 setts. so anyway, after 5 mins i got the locator out and started to did, messed up the set i think, and the ferret came out before i had finnished with fluff on his claws, but no blood. ill leave that set till next year now lol. let rolf of to do a bit of following on while we got to a set on a slight hill, rolf landed on the powerlines right above the set, he must have read my mind!, put the ferret in and stood 100 yards back, 1 minute later down goes rolf but straght back up onto a post. i guess a rabbit poped out to check if it was safe. a few seconds later the rabbit bolted at a right angle to thick bushes on the far side of the feild, rolf went after, looking like he had no chance, and the and the last minute it turned on his side and boosted in on it in the cover. good 200 yard flight. when i got there i notices rolf was on one side of the fence and the rbabit was on the other, and rolf was holding it by the arse. this happened a few weeks also, so went in with my hand and grabbed the rbabits arse, but rolf lost his grip and grabbed the next thing he could, got nailed and he held on for about a minute, my da (while he was slowing walking over laffing)said he didnt know what was squeling more the rabbit or me lol. i streted through and had to dispacth teh bunny with a knife cos he took so long, one handed! not easy. and also, , and rolf finally let go, and i dragged the bunny through the fence, let him pluck a little fluff and then covered teh rbabit and through some meat to one side, was so easy to get him off :) .usually id fed him, but i wanted to check this new permission and let the farmer down last week, so couldnt repeat it. in the car and drove to the permission. the farmer was a funeral, so i looked like a plunker and said ill call back some other time to his daughter. so now i was thinkign where was i gonna hunt? didnt wanna go back to my other permission , needs a bit of a rest, so decided to try the permission u see at http://www.falconryforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=9048&highlight=benc , bit this farm was a at the bottom of the valley, stoped the car and as i was getting rolf out, a fella came over and told me the hurley pitch has been having alot of trouble with rabbits, would i mind flying on it! offcourse i will i said lol. so went to the pitches fisrt, lots of diggings ****, but only managed to find one set, a nice ground set, unfortunally it was empty, buy this time it was 3:15 and i was worrying about not getting another rabbit. so headed to the field i was intending to at the start, and first set, i put rolf in a tree but nothing, so went to the next, and tried getting rolf to the tree above it, but he wasnt going, and i didnt wanna feed him anymore just yet lol. after a few minutes a rabbit bolts down the field and into another set, rold missing it by a milisecond. lol if he was in the tree i wanted him in, he woulda had it. next set i put the ferret down and rabbit poped in and rolf, rolf chased but then landed on a fench post above the set, a few seconds alter the rabbit bolts up the feild! heading for me, i move trying to get the rbabit to move out into the open, but it turns and tried to go up the mound and through the fence, rolf hit it, and tumbled with it down the mound, then had a buckeroo ride into a hole, but he still had it! pulled teh rabbit out, with my gloved hand and let rolf fed up off it. 2 rabbits in one day!some proud of him, and hes a few pics of the last last, as i didnt feed him up of the first
cant believe i just typed all that!
