I have the priviledge of being able to hunt one of the biggest varieties of ducks in the world. Here in Niigata, which lies on the northwest coast of Japan, every waterfowl imaginable migrates down from Siberia to its lakes and ponds; ponds which get a surprise visit from me and my peregrine every winter. Although traditional Japanese falconry does hold a place for the peri, the gos is the legendary bird of prey used by the shoguns.
As the falconry laws here are similar to Britain's, the Japanese gos isn't used here, and it's numbers are few. The Siberian gos gets to nail it's native prey here that it's used to in warmer months.
I also hunt with a Harris', which goes for hare and pheasant. Got a partridge this winter too. Any questions on Japanese falconry, give me a mail as I'm doing research and translation on it extensively just now....

You must've been near the sea Pete. At the beach they swoop down and and swipe the McDonalds hamburgers from the mousy Japanese chicks' hands. I luv 'em:supz:

Hey Mike, send some of that game down this way! I can never find enough ducks nearby for the Harris! We have to drive up to Nara to find a good spot. I just build a Harris sized hawk box that bolts on to my scooter though so I can take him to some pheasant spots nearby and maybe chase some pigeons around...You going to the Flight Festival in February?
