Hi All
Just thought I would show you these new hoods in detail....
Justin Tanner & Mike Todd, USA
New technology has produced the first two-gram hood made form space age materials. These hoods are ideal for smaller raptors where leather hoods are too heavy. For the larger raptors where weight is not an issue, and the falconer is looking for a distinctive looking hood; The ultra light hood represents the first new type of hood for the twenty first century. These hoods will be premiered at the NAFA meet in Vernal Utah.
Moulded Ultra-Light Hoods
This is a hood created by High-Tech Falconry made of a poly-carbonate material. This material allows the hood to be very light weight and yet durable. It is usually 30% lighter than a conventional leather Dutch hood. The hood design features a traditional beak opening, a Dutch style closure with Gore-Tex braces, and a traditional topknot fixture. High-Tech Falconry also makes a vented hood that allows air to the eye, while keeping the light out. This hood was designed for birds that condensate excessively in the hood or birds that are kept in the hood for long periods of time. The disadvantage of these hoods is that the individual falconer cannot make the tiny adjustments they are used to making on a traditional leather hood. Adjustments have to be made by the manufacturer.
Ultra Light hoods are $50.00 (Black) coloured ones are $55.00.

The Ultra Vent are $85.00 coloured ones $90.00.

All sizes are the same price.
You would have to send them a hood that fits your raptor perfectly so that they could scan the beak opening and put it onto the hood :) **** A service that M-J Hoods can provide for you if you bring your Raptor to us for a hood fitting to ensure a correct beak opening...... you can purchase a hood from us should wish to ensure a "good fit" in the gape to send onto the US **** NB: re-worded section!

How abrasive is the plastic? Worry about rubbing next to the cere no matter how well fitting it is. ALso how rigid are they? Ie are they likely to crumple when dropped/put in pocket??? or are they fairly falconer proof??

Very Nice Hoods , Cant See Me Craming One Of Those Into A Pocket And Roaring After A Gull Flight, Seriously Very Good , First Class Workmanship, Mark.
They are nice looking hoods, they were selling them at the CHC meet in Jan. I would have bought one but didn't know the correct size to buy for my falcon. On the down side I was told by a couple of people that if you quash one they can crack so maybe Mark would be better off not pushing one into his pocket!

Yes it was in California and in the mornings it was bloody freezing! Once the sun got up it was nice. Not as expensive as you would thimk that time of year. Two of us went over and had a great time. I must say those hoods are the lightest I have ever picked up.

Hi MTF
When I last spoke to Justin and Mike they said..... the way you go about getting a hood like this is by sending a leather hood with a fitting gape...... they then copy the gape somehow and then put it into the hood..... so its not just a case of buying off the shelf ... so to speak. Things might have changed since.... and I have e-mailed Justin for an update on his hoods for my website.... if and when I get a reply.... I will post it up on the webby :D
