I have just finished talking with David Frank from Western Sporting Publications. I asked him about the Jim Nelson book on Hoodmaking. Jim is has been working on this project for many, many years and will be the tell-all-on how to make a hood. Whether is be Dutch, Anglo, sewn or stitched, it will have it all. It features the prominent hoodmakers of our generation, namely, John Moran, Ron Rollins, Dennis Maynes, Clayton Smith, Brian MCDonald, Gene Johnson and Jim himself, just to name a few.
This is not just another How to Book. Jim is a master hoodmaker and every part of making a hood will be covered, no secrets left unturned.
If you are a hoodmaker, or even have a passing thought this is one book you MUST have!!!
David tells me it should be ready by the middle of this year...
Hoodmakers,,, stay tuned..This book will revolutionise the way hoods are made...

LoL,
David Frank is the publisher of the Book so he should know more than you or I!!
I can remember just about a year ago I recieved e-mails from several hoodmakers who I chatted with,,not only in the UK, but Hungary,Denmark, and Holland, who had never even heard of the book or Jim Nelson.
This is a book for the ages and am told will be out this year, Great things are well worth the wait!!

Ken,
In your first post you mentioned "sewn or stitched" are they the same thing or are they different methods of making a hood?

What I meant was this, sticthing is visible from the outside, to me sewn means hidden , not visible from the outside,,
That is just my language and what I use to describe styles. Both require practice and certainly offer unique and "different" looks to a hood.

Me too - I'm enjoying having a go at hoods, a good book on it would be great.
(SakerJack, what do you think of my latest? I'd love to get your opinion.)

I'd definately be interested. I saw a video on hood making about 6 years ago, and most of my hoods are based on what I saw then. It would be nice to have a text to illuminate me on other areas of hood making.
