Search the arcives. The system is dead money, put it towards a real telemetry system. It will not pin point a bird, OK for an elephant though.

There is a system on ebay at the moment although it,s about 12 years old it's a very good system. I have an identical one and as far as I know they are the only 2 in the UK. I use Hi-Trak transmitters with mine and have actually picked uo a signal from 32 miles away check out www.alpharf.co.uk (http://www.alpharf.co.uk) the unit will be on channels 5, 6, 7 & 8.
These units were made as a special order for one of the UAE Royal family 2 were gifted here the remainder are in the Gulf, they were designed and manufactured by Ian Dilsworth in Suffolk.
Current Ebay price is £153.90 with 2 transmitters 1 is bio track and it dosn't say the make for the other. If it's Alpha RF they start at £130 each. item number is 7213694889 with 1 day 20 hours left to run.
Well worth a look and you will also see it has just been serviced as well

I think the ICOM is very decent and only 170quid new. We had a thread on it a couple of weeks back..

Second hand luksander will be around that price - avoid cheap systems - remember why your buying a set.

Yes, I understand the necessity of buying a good set, but there's a small part of me says that its daft to spend more than the bird's cost for a set. I fly a fem HH and she was£350. Before people start launching into us, please let me explain.
I understand the need for a decent set, the last thing I want is to have to go through what I just have in recovering my lil girl. I was out hunting with her and lost track of her, spent all day with a nackered knee looking for her, and the next day and the next, until an ex EEO owner found her and called the police.
Suffice to say, I got her back safe and well, and doing aviary training and weight control for two weeks until I let her lose again. (want to make doubly sure she's ok) As you can imagine, I HAVE learned my lesson and am desperate to get a set, any half decent set really, as I know I can always upgrade when I'm back working again. (i've been made redundant from two places over the last year and am waiting on a job interview) I thought that a 10 mile range would be sufficient for my girl? As I will be flying her in North West Wales, over bracken and on open hill sides with the occasional aobstruction to telemetry and good vantage points.

Hawk = £350, you lose it and have to buy another one - cost now £700. Plus time training etc, loss of hawk to hunt - the cost of telemetry doesn't seem to be that expensive then.

Jim.

The idea that expensive equals good is a fallacy. Out of all the telems ive used, the icom is dead on with gain and squelch easy to adjust according to terrain. Channel always spot on and the functions are too numerous to count. Finnish said i sound like an advert for the thing, but i don't even know who makes it. u can use a marshall yagi with it but the rubber duck antenna worked clearly at a km away when i lost my red tail last april....
