Brinsea cool lume works excellently, without moving the egg around too much. Also try the buddy heart monitor, worked reasonably well for me last season. The cool lume does what it says on the tin it dosent heat the embrio when candling.

No, but for gods sake dont buy one from Brinsea buy from interhatch of Chesterfield. For some unknown reason its far cheaper to buy Brinseas products from a supplier than the manufacturer! Me thinks they may be greedy on the profit margins.

Its OK but not the cool lume and they do tend to warm up hellish quick. If memmory serves me right thats about the cost of a new cool lume from Interhatch. Buy the cool lume youll never regret it!

i have used a mini maglite in the past . but the buddy is great just put the developing egg in and it tells you the heart beat . but it dont iluminnate. the candeler on ebay is ok. remmember in the old days they used to use a candle.

Yep your right but they didnt apply the candle to the egg. Which you need to do with the Ebay candler. There fore risking damage to the embrio. I too have used a mag light and would have to say never again as the light is too far diffused for absolute accuracey.

I bought three oct 20 ......... but I found the digital thermo display to be out on all three ranging from 0.3 to a full degree above display temp

I also think they are a bit gammy made which has made me think a bit..

however people have great succses with them ....... but to my way of thinking ..

If they cant be ****d to calibrate the digital thermometers what else cant they be ****d to get right??

so I getting AB newlife incubator next year

Good thinking. I threw out my Octagon 20 some 3 years ago. The temperature differed 1°C from the center to the sides. I used it as a wet incubator and it killed every egg I put in it.

Candler bought from Lewis.(Hatch-it Incubators) Plus two Octagon 20 and i found that the thermometer is quite a bit out you need to get spot checks. They work very well...:D

finnish mate beware of brinsea spot checks i bought three found them all to be a tad out by small varing amounts ...

I recommend you get a certificated thermometer from russel sciebntific labs around a 100 squids well worth putting your mind at ease

I've found the same thing, there is away to calibrate the Brinsea Spot checks as they sell them already calibrated although you have to pay extra, does anyone know the best way to calibrate them?

Cheers,

Do they come with a certificate .... fin to my way of thinking if they cant be ****d to calibrate them in the first place they gonna do it special?

I mean it aint as if its a garden thermometer is it ... It's a freaking device that is supposed to be accurate to within 1 tenth of a degree

Trust me ger a certificated scientific one

I'm not 100% certain but I think I've seen them advertised somewhere saying that they come with a calibration certificate.
