I was at a total loss when i came to this thread but one of the members gave me this link http://www.falconersemporium.co.uk/kt-inst.htm after reading it i understood a bit more. You need a single line delta type kite for the training.

Dont know much about kites, but I think what you have are the posh ones with lots of strings for stearing etc. I don't think any one uses any of that type...probably wrong. The most common is a Delta (which is what we use) it only has the one string, to this you add the lure which has a cord with a ring and a cord with a quick release clip. The bird takes the lure which then slides down the kite string. the only other cord is on the tail and it holds a very small drogue to help steady the kite. Too many cords and I think you would be asking for trouble with the bird hitting them or every thing getting tangled. Some people fly Harris to a kite, tho they are more often used to train and exercise falcons.

are you suggesting trying to get your hawk to chase one of your kites??? like using it like a giant lure??? If the answer is 'YES' please read on...if its 'no dont be stupid'...stop reading now
I dont doubt that you could get him to chase it but its going to end in tears! The hawk can get caught in the strings. the hawk will trash the kite that he will assosiate as food sorce and it will be ripped apart. he could hit it hard resulting in the posible loss of kite and hawk. Its crazy...but at the same time, if a safe way of doing it could be faound it might be great fun. I have wanted to make a remote control bird that would fly well enought and be soft enough for the hawk to chase and catch... when I am loaded I will research it further.
Where in Pembrokeshire are you?

Kanati, kites are used to get a lure up higher than can be done by hand. This encourages the bird to mount up after the lure and teaches a bird that flying high brings rewards. Once she recognises the kite, you send it up one day with no lure, the bird mounts and you release quarry under it and now the bird understands that if she mounts, she stoops and gets the reward. So no, the kite itself is not used like a giant lure, more of a conveyance for a lure to height train the bird. This can also be done with large helium baloons.
I've never heard of anyone kite training a harris.. does anyone have any more information on its advantages for a broadwing?

No information, but have read on here that some people have done it. I thought about it as my MHH would probably find it a bit of fun. As a training aid it wouldnt be worth while he tends to get too high when up on the soar any how. Just thought it would be a different way of a qick bit of exercise. Haven't found out enough about Harris to kite to have tried it out...too many bunny!!! We do fly falcons to them so the equipment is here, so may be when the bunny season is over it may be worth a try.
So if any one has done it...please post your results and reasons please !!!!

Please mate! I can be stupid somtimes but I'm not that stupid! am I ? I know what kites are normally used for in falconry circles  The way I read the question, it sounded like he was into his kites and into his hawks, and just wanted to combine the two, but getting one to chase the other...that is why I said what I said. Maybe I miss read it

i was speaking to a guy who fly's longwings he said one of the advantages of training a hh to a kite was great fitness he said often his falcons climbed up to a 1000 ft and came back exausted ( i think i would ) but he said if you could get the hh up 2 to 3 hundred ft fitness wold be great also they work better with pointing dogs i suppose it depends what terrain you work
