Pleased you got your bird back.A similar thing happend to me yesterday.I was
getting ready to go out, cleaning my boots by the door when the dog pushed the door open,in a flash she was out & away. I hadn't put the Tx on.Raced about getting my boots, lure binoculars etc. By the time I got out she was nowhere to be seen. It's amazing how many little song-birds sound like hawk
bells! Walked across the adjoining fields whistling calling swinging the lure
still nothing, by now I'm mentally ticking off all the places I'l have to ring round & notify IRB,local radio etc.Through binoculars in the distance I can
make out what appear to be 50 or more crows in the top of a lone tree about a mile away,"as the crow flies".It's got to be her they wouldn't gather like that for a buzzard or spar & wild peregrines don't tend sit in trees.Off I went.By the time I got close the number of crows had multiplied, it was like a scene from "The Birds".There was 100's of them, cawing & scolding. In the lee
of a low, hedge was the focus of this furore Cutter wrestling a crow mouth fastend on its neck, pinning it in her feet but unable to finnish it,she kills rooks
easilly but can't finnish carrion crows. It had taken 3hrs to locate her I don't
think Iv'e ever felt more relieved, people can slag me down all they want Iv'e
got her back. In the 1,000's of times Iv'e been hawking I'm going to make mistakes. All I can do is make sure I don't make this one again

Pleased you got her back mate - I've been flying birds for 20 plus years, and occasionally it's easy to become complacent - then the panic starts!
The way you got her back confirms that she's well trained and does you credit. No **** taking from me!!!! Cheers BC

we all make stupid mistakes i had been flying my gos one afternoon had just finished with a good long cock bird fed up on a whole quail put swivel leash etc on was walking back to car almost dark at this point dog put another cock pheasant up and like an idiot on auto pilot i just threw the bird off at it so off she has gone swivel leash the whole shabang trailing behind her after a second saying what the fxxk did i do that for i was off on the search luckily she had put the pheasant into cover and taken perch in a low willow tree from which i called her down almost wetting myself with relief gave myself a good talking to on the way back to the van. I have never told anyone this story before for obvious reasons but i have never done anything like that since.

I just had my "Stupid Falconer" moment over New Yrs. Tasha and I went down to Texas to Visit Weasel. We took all the birds and dogs down with us for some 2006 hunting. Had a good time and such in the Texas Dirt Hawkers Hideout. On the day we were spose to leave we went to hunt one last time. I took the Harris out of the box and off we went. I stopped 50 ft from the truck and said " ****(was worse) I forgot the telemetry". i took two steps back towards the truck and then said "Aaaaaahhhh.....He ain't goin anywhere". Well to make a long sotry short we think he caught a rabbit way back in the brambles and were unable to find him. He was recovered 4 days later by a Homeowner with a can of Tunafish and a box. I now have to drive 16.5 hrs one way to go get him...Penance. But I am getting him back.

I did a stupid thing a few years back,I flew my male Harris late in the day before leaving the next morning for a three week holiday abroad.Of course he chased a covey of partridge and that was it,not to be seen.It was near dark and I had no option than to leave him out and go home to pack.I was up all night arguing with my partner about not being able to go on holiday.
Having not slept a wink I was out before dawn,It took me an hour to track him down and he finally flew back to the lure with a full crop.
I still had to get him to my friends before going to the airport.
Thing is I would not of gone on holiday and left him out, would any of you?
