Very interesting, I would like more opinions from members and vets too.

Must depend on type of break and where ? Week for a small break.

My FHH had full movement in her right wing after 15 days having a double fracture in her humerous. Didnt fly her for the rest of the season after that cause I wanted her fully fit for this year. She's flown 150% this year.

Lets just accept, in a general sense, a break is a break. I do not want to complicate things here I am hoping we can all learn something new.
The other bit of this question is, the period after the the healing, the bird should rest before flying again?

if a bird has a break/damage in the wing, if it doesnt heal in 10 days or so, its not going to. The bone calcifies much quicker in BoP than that of ...say..humans who need much longer.
Calcifying seems to have 2 different effects : it can either inhibit the use of a limb and cause arthritis or in leg breaks..a similar process can make it heal stronger than its original leg bone as its thicker.

oops forgot to add..the leg bones take longer to heal that bones in the wing...I wouldn't expect a leg bone to heal in 2 weeks.... and having said that, Id do exactly as stormrider...keep it in till the next season. no point risking further damage.

well i wouldnt like to put a time scale on a broken bone in any bop as all depends on type of break ,and what health the bird was in when the leg was broken and even how strong willed the bird is too get fit again lol ,but im no vet or exspert so will leave this one to the rest of the more exsperienced falconers

It also depends on what the bird is fed. A bird fed solely on DOCS will take longer to heal due to the total lack of nutrition in DOCS. I would always advocate a good diet of quail and rat. I wouldnt use rabbit in the early stages as the bird will be tempted to grab the rabbit too hard with its feet causing undue stress on the healing bone. I would also advocate a tadge of calcivet to help a healing bone. Yes, bones in a bird do heal quicker, but lets bare in mind that you want to get as much quality of life out of your bird as possible and not enter it too early, during or after healing.

How long is a piece of string - I dont think there is an answer to such a generalisation.

Very true! The book Raptor Biomedicine III contains some very informative and technical papers regarding fracture management in BOP.
