4 days does seem abit long but it sounds like there should be enough casting in the diet (although i'm not a great doc fan). If the bird is in good health and the mutes seem okay i wouldn't worry greatly at the moment although it is worth keeping an eye on.

Oh and forgot to add there may be considerable less casting when on DOC compared to a full rabbit leg. So some may slip the net initially in a gravel floor (if applicable)

i think your first impressions are right mate. 12 to 24 hours depending on how much roughage has been fed.
it usually takes longer for larger amounts to be brought back up.

i would think 4 days is a rather long time but then i dont have much experience of RTs. their metabolism is slower than some other hawks.
i wouldnt think its anything to worry about though.

i would feed more roughage when not flying say a rabbit head once a week. this helps to clean out the crop etc and is good for them. plenty of casting material there and will not boost their weight much at all.
mash up the head with a hammer so he can eat the lot.

Have got 2005 F/H+M/H and 2005 M/RT +2005 Male Ferruginous
Each hawk fed at the same time and they all have cast with in 12/18 hours.
Unless going out hunting the next day and will get half there normal amount but washed Rabbit.
4 days is a long time M8.

Mike

All hawks should cast within 15-24 hours, even if DOC is fed a pellet should appear within this timescale.

If fed a large feed of rabbit including fur and bone it can take 2 or 3 days for the large pellet to appear (the hawk should not be fed during this time!)

If you are feeding daily and a pellet is not being cast this could potentially cause sour crop - does she have any green tinged parts to her pellet?

Hi Mike,no she dosn't have green in her casts and she has always seemed to take ages to cast so i thought i would ask the question. The last meal she had was shoulders of a hare/ribs.This was on thursday.

I find with the Golden Eagles it depends on how often you give them roughage. Some people prefer once or twice a week and if that is the case they seem to take longer to cast.
I prefer to give roughage every day and they tend to cast every day.
Day old chicks are a lot easier to digest so it might be worth feeding them for a few days to help him get into a routine of casting. As most folk said, 12 to 16hrs is the norm on a moderate crop but a bit longer on a good gorgeing
Regards.
