hi,
i am in birmingham westmidlands and iam planing to buy a falcon in the next few days and dont know where to go to fly and train the BOP and is there anyone or place nearby that i can go with or to and practice this amazing sport, hobby of mine and taking in mind that i am a begginer :( (used to have a male gyr/peregrine )
thankyou

Why are you buying a bird, partiqularly a falcon with no where to fly it 1st?
Normally most people comming into the sport do the preparation including acquiring land before getting a bird.
If you want to throw some money away try a charity.
Pete.

Why are you buying a Falcon at this time of the year? the season is nearly finished, it would be different if it were going into a breeding project but it's not and it almost time to put your bird down to moult now.
If you have nowhere to fly a falcon then how are you ever going to train it and fly it? I know the advice you are asking for is how to find land to hunt/train on but the only advice I can give you is don't buy the Falcon untill you have secured correct land for hunting your bird, checked it for quarry as you may find it is not suitable for a Falcon but a Hawk would be better. Always match your bird to available quarry.
You would be far better off searching for land now and making yourself known and then getting a bird in July/August.

If you've got nowhere to fly the bird mate you're f*****d from the off and a falcon is definately not a bird for a beginner. To keep any bird you need time, plenty of land and plenty of money! without all of these you're just being cruel.Stay on the forum, get out there and aqcuire some decent land and then read every book you can find and think about it again next season.

Hi Dagash and welcome.(or am I too late). Anyway, for the benefit of all on here who may be in a position to help you and guide you through the relevant aspects before buying a bird: Can you tell us a bit more about yourself and your previous experiences with your last bird? How long did you have it? How did you gain info the last time, etc? This is not a dig but a relevant way to find out what you really need to be doing.
I hope you understand where I'm coming from?

whoa! major negative replys on this thread! poor ******s only a begginer! would like to know what happened to the first bird though, more importantly where you got it from?
ask on this forum about preporation before getting a bird! you'll probably get lots of advice, everyone on here loves spouting their opinion! you just gotta be carfull what ya say though, everyones very touchy bout people gettin birds with no knowledge!
its a big thing for us, as every one person that gets a bird with no knowledge, our precious sport goes down the drain! sounds like you got a lot to learn matey, but try and learn most of the theory before you get a bird this time!
all you have to do is ask! and if you can start an arguement that would be great! we love a good argue!

Hi Dagash
Please fill in your profile and give us a little info about yourself Thanks :yawinkle:
Are you from the UAE or have you just been living there?
This appears to be a classic case of what happens when someone comes onto the Forum without giving us some details of experiance or background and we have to assume the worst,
I think it is about time that before membership is granted to new applicants they should have to fill in their profile before they can sign on so we have at least some info to work with, one for the Mods or Admin I think

hi dagash , bros falcon is not a bird for a beginner at all, its a totally different bird compared to a hawk, it flies for miles, chances r u will loose it if u aint careful and aint clued up to the telemetry system and how to use it
not having a land to fly it, u shouldnt even think of getting a bird till u get permission on some land and i dont mean an acre of land but loads of acres, coz these birds can fly.
first of all bros if u r just getting into falconry and hawking i suggest read alot of books time and time again then make some friends and get some advice from experienced falconers and even go out and try hunting with them and help them beat tree's bushes etc to let the quarry out or even ferret for them and God willing their will be awesome falconers who will even lend u their bird like they do with me and train u properly and how to enter, feed and weigh and also train to lure etc etc
season is nearly over bros, so wait till september when the season starts and get some help from falconers, do that for a yr or more and then God willing u will be ready for a bird
go for a hawk to start off with, its so hard for me to speak english lol u may not understand my glaswegian , im trying to use proper english words here.
start off with a female harris hawk or even a male for a few yrs and then maybe go into falconry , its a different type of ballgame, they dont follow u around like hawks do, unless their imprinted on u, if u know what that means, they follow the lure and by chance if it see's something afar its gonna go for it even for miles and if it kills it, it will be very hard for u to find it, telemetry will help but still u can easily loose em
i was the same as u and jumped right into it, im glad i waited now , u will be too
all the best and welcome to falconry

hi,
thankyou all for replying back, well i forgot to introduce my self properly or even give you more information about my expierience in falconry...
well at the begining iam from the uae , dubai... and my expeirence in the field of falconry is around 1 year until now, and i came to birmingham to continue my studies.... well i started with a gyr/peregrine and had to sell it because i had to come to the uk to continue my education, and why i sold it and not left it with me because i knew no one will take a better care of it like i did other than a falconer...
well at the begining i thought birmingham or the uk would be similar to the uae where you can go to the desert or any open areas where you can train a falcon.... i didnt know that you had to aquire a land to do so..:)
anyways i forgot to mention in the first place, is that in my experiance part was that i was that when i was practicing falconry in dubai i was poeple who had expeiriance more than 15 or 20 years and learnt alot from them and trust me it was better than reading any book .... because books say something and in real life its something else...

lol thats so awesome and class :D well said
not really luv haha, but i know what u mean it sure can sound like that but it aint
see its a sin to keep a promise and then break it or forget about it
rather say inshallah i will pick u up, meaning God willing i will keep u up, basically if i dont forget and am not promising
i hope the above example makes sense haha
for example if i say God willing i will make it tomorrow for hunting, but then something happens i cant, at least i warned the person beforehand haha
dagash my bros inshallah u would
and bros in the uk u need to approach land owners like farmers and get their permission to fly on their land, if u make friends with fellow falconers they will already have land or permission on someone elses land and chances r u could go out hunting with them 3 or 4 times a week with your falcon
by the way falcon bells, u still like henna if u want a box i can post it oot tae terry for u, my maw just brought some back for my wife :D

I see you went to the same Arabic School as me and Mark then, Inshallah, the most dreaded word in the Gulf that one, it has more meanings than any other word in the Arabic Dictionary lol It actually means "If Allah is willing" and more often than not it is forgotten within seconds of saying it, when by some mysterious means they actually remember to pick you you should say something like Jazak Allah Khair then with luck they will remember to pick you up the next time, If you are in a hurry like late for the expo you can use Impshi yallah yallah to get the Cammel going faster your spelling may be correct though. Al-Hamduillah is normally a good one to use when things are going right for a change.

Welcome Dagash.
Your English is very good - better than some others on the Forum...:supz:
You're very fortunate to have so much open space in UAE, it is much harder to find suitable land to fly, a falcon especially, near to Birmingham.
I cannot help you as I live and fly my birds in Scotland - maybe others closer could offer you somewhere? You would have to be prepared to travel a little I would expect to find somewhere, do you have the time/transport to do this?
Hope you find this forum to be helpful - whatever your final decision.;-)
Kind regards.

Tarqers......... You don't know me Pal and I have never met you and I hope for your sake I never do. This is not the First time you have bated me last time I treated it withy the comtempt it deserved.
You come on this Forum and in less than a month you have insulted people and seem to think you are a big man. Well of course you are arn't you? Hiding behind a poofey name like that.
Lets have your name then Pal if you are such a big man. You seem to know an awfull lot about nothing as far as I can see.
And as for selling pumped Hybrids to anyone think again Pal I certainly wouldn't sell anything to a jumped up know it all like you. And yes I sold a Border Terrier to a Forum member but did you see me advertise it on here NO you did not I simply posted a Picture for Chris to see as I could not get it to him any other way and I appologised to the Forum for putting the pic up. How many other Forum members sell working dogs on here? do you slag them off? No so why me what is your problem? you have already slagged me off on another post because I am a breeder, pratts like you wouldn't have a bird if someone didn't breed it for them but then when I think about it your a breeder too arn't you or do you just give the Harris hawks away that you breed each year
As for taking the **** I would never advise anyone starting out in falconry to take on a Falcon and at the time none of us knew anything about Dagash, He came onto the Forum looking for land to fly a Falcon on that he intended gettin very soon, what would you have said to him? Now we know Dagash's story but I still wouldn't advise him to buy a Falcon yet as he still has to find land on which to hunt also flying and training disaplins here in the UK are very different to what he has experianced in Dubai. I know I have been there a lot Have you?
I have the right to advertise birds and whatever I like on this list and i would like to know who made you Keeper of the Forum or are you just jealouse?

Oh boy ..here we go again..a post by one bloke degenerates into a slanging match between 2 others..
tarquers seems to crop up a lot in these..or is it my imagination.
I asume Dagash was hoping to hunt with the falcon...cos of where he came from. Tho if not, just lure and kite work during the summer, then land would not be such a problem. just the CAA permission for the kite. If he is still reading the answers on his post, may be he could tell us what he was aiming to do, or hunt with the bird???

Dagash......... Sorry for interupting your thread like this my friend but as I am sure you are aware I did not start this and I will not reply to anymore posts from Tarqers at least not on this thread but if Mr Tarqers wants to start his own thread I will enjoy putting him right.

Totally agree Moses. The type of post that the person has sent is what is known has charcter assassination it is usally done for a self motive or money. Make a person look bad regadless of the cost. I've dealt with scum like this in the past and have a deep animosity towards them. Nothing but trouble makers mate.

hello everyone,
a'salamu alykom, well i am surprised that many people on this forum knew some arabic actually i didnt expect that at all ... anyways i re-thank everyone who has passed over this post and offered me help or advice....
going on some ask about my studies well ....inshalla graduate this year :D and if i had a falcon well i would certainly take it with me in october or december because its hard to sell a good friend becuase i had a hard time selling my gyr/peregrine with the advice of my friends (falconers) and parents that its better if i sold it or gave it to someone i know than leaving it at home , when there will be no one taking good care of it....
furthermore, i also would like to meet other falconers near by either go hunting or trainig ( if i had one because i am still thinking of Terry's advice)
the only problem is that i am thinking of falconry alot... well about transport i think i might manage it either by renting a car or using trains...something like that
also i was asked about the time ive got i think i have weekends ,tuesdays and thuresdays off ... and i hope that i didnt forget any question asked to ... and if so just ask me again either reposting it or private message any if you like...
well at last and sorry for writing alot... i dont mind interrpting this stread terry aslong as you and tarquers solve the problem peacefully:grin:

i do think that was a bit harsh. but buying a falcon at this time of year is just stupid! unless you are doing displays and need one.

Or happen to be buying a bird for Spring rooks, or pest control, or lure falcon for summer, or breeding, or as you say displays. There are much more reasons to buy at this time of year than just display!

Dagash, I dont know who is around your area, but there are a few that hunt falcons in summer and quite a few who fly them without hunting. Not just for display birds, but because they enjoy the flight.
May be you can find some one you can go out with and have some fun until it is a more suitable time to get your own bird again
All the best (sorry can't speak English well let alone Arabic  )

I agree with Terry, Find some land first then match the bird to what quarry is avaiable and I would be out now looking for permission not later in the year when it seems most people tend to go out searching for land
Dave
happy hunting
