I have flown imprint male this year. Nice bird and do very quick stoops. We havn't success in this year - season was short, because booted eagle don't tolerate cold weather. I hope, next season woulld be more good.

I have seen a pair and they were like a mini golden eagle. They even make similar call but much much smaller.

From my memory, they seem quite smaller than red tailed. They are definitly powerful for the size. Worth trying out at rab.

Direct pursuits at corvids and waiting-on at phesants, quails, partituges. He was close to succes in some cases, but don't catch anything quarry yet. I'm not a skilled falconer yet and this is main problem.

No, I'm not a breeder. I just raise my bird from 4 day old. Hi is full imprint and would be involved in breeding project in future.
Two breeders here get a young pairs of eagles for natural breeding this summer. But keen frost this winter kill two males, so breeding is put aside :(

Can you please write the latin name of booted eagle? Is that Hiaretus pennatus-we call it dwarf eagle?
Gecko
13-10-2006, 10:25 AM
Their Latin name is Hieraaetus pennatus,
I had the chance to fly an adult male while in Southern Africa, he was flying in at 480grams. I have some pictures, but having trouble puting them on the site.
They are used in S.A. by some falconers. The males are great for quail and other smaller birds (which are the main prey for the males) while the females are used for francolin.

OH we have them here in Macedonia and we call them dwarf eagles. Veri smalll eagles but in their character just like an eagle but hunts as goshawks.
Never flown one though.

My male took 14 hooded crows in this season, also one jackdaw and 3 pigeons.
His skills grow up very well in second year.

Very nice , impressive , how do they compare to Goshawks speed wise though, they obviously have enough turn of speed to catch birds and that at least says something...
