View Full Version : Help Lost FHH

I lost my bird on wednesday without going into great detail about it, She was attacked by Rooks and flew away. She has not been entered and had only been off a few days. I lost her in Poulton Lancashire so if anyone has any news of anything let me know by private msg. She had bells but not telem.
This is my fault and im holding my hands up to that and whatever you think about this at the momment it only matters about her. She wont last much longer out there so i was hoping the more people that know the better chance she may be found.
I will be checking PM's when i can but other than that i will be out looking for her when im not at work. This thread is for information only and will take all the comments you want to give me when I have her home.
Im sorry to say i wont be answering anything on here because the only time i will be home is after dark and im sure you will know how upset you would be if you had done somthing that caused you to lose you friend.

Sorry, i have had lots of support from friends and other falconers who have given up there time to look for her thats why i fear the worst. Im hoping she has been holding out from them and is waiting to see me. I had to work for the past two days when others searched. I will be out as soon as i can from work tomorrow and the only hope i have left is to visit every area i can and call her. Thanks everyone as i said i cant realy get into this as i need to get sleep for work so i have all the energy i will need to find her. It upsets me the more i type about it becasue she is out there frightend hungry and its my fault.
Thanks again people i will let you all know!

I'll tell everyone I know.hi sorry to read you have lost your harris, she wont be too far away, best to keep looking close to where you lost her andlisten out for all the other birds causing a racket, you can be certain that she will see and hear you long before you see her, and chin up she can go days without food a lot longer than you think, lost my harris a while back my own silly fault too we,ve all done it. mine the little sod appeared from out of nowhere and landed in a treeabout five foot above me after seven days of me losing sleep and walking or should i say wandering countless miles in circles. im certain you will get her back so good look, sorry i cant help you to look cause i,m too far away.

know exactly how you feel mate.
it happens to every one of us at some point.
dont panic mate, its a harris. they are survivors mate and will seek out an existance, even if not entered. everything is new to ths bird, every single thing. she will turn up.
we all share a passion for our birds and we all die inside when something like this happens. god knows ive been through it recently.
my hopes and prayers are with you mate.
besy wishes.

if she is just fresh out i doubt she will be very fit so the odds are she wont have gone too far.
look out for:
mobbing crows
chattering magpies
cows or sheep that are gathered and gazing at something,
horses that are bolting around spooked.
These are sure signs that a bird of prey is about.
.
check around small copses of woods but look closer to the ground. Dont think she will be in the top of a tree cos the odds are she wont be. Its unlikely that she will be in the open, crows will have forced her into "hiding"
take a small set of binos, mews jess, swivel and leash, a rabbit lure and a nice piece of beef.
She is out there. Waiting for you to find her.

If theres anybody near you with another flying Harris, try flying it in the araea. Harris' will often come in towards another Harris that is being flown.

M8 as other guy's have said don't be to hard on yourself it's a fact of this sport these things happen.
But when it does you always blame yourself.
Been there twice this season 1st time was when our young M/H just like yours only just been entered i had all the 3harris we had then out had a good morning was heading back to the car with jazz on the glove he jumped on to a fence post i kept on walking truned round 20feet from where he jumped from the glove a he had vanished into thin air.
All the birds we have are a joint interest with myself and Abeboy so i felt like S*** and blamed myself because i had them out.
Between the both off us must of spend 3weeks walking the ground looking for jazz Abeboy(Craig)Made Trap.
The farmer saw him twice but by the time he phoned 1 of us and we got up there he was away again.
Sadly we never got jazz back(YET) we still keep a look out for him
The 2nd time was Again just myself out with the 2 H/H's and this was only 3 weeks after jazz was lost.
Again good day Both bird flew good and if i mind right i think we got only 1 rabbit that day.Got them home and on there bow stands in the my back garden and there were well apart i went into the house made tea looked out the kitchen window both birds were ok just sitting there my phone went so after answering that 10mins later went out to put the birds back in and M8 i could not believe it the F/M had Dragged her Bow stand(A big stainless steel 1) across to the M/H and killed him and all this happened in 10/15mins.
And again i blamed myself for not putting them in sooner.
But after specking to a few other Falconer's and as craig said you must mind there are BOP and you do not know what is going on in there head's.
But after that both of us never had the same time for the F/h so she was sold on.
And we were left with know H/H's and had to start again got2 young female and male last nov and these pair are coming on good.
We still hold out hope in finding jazz and will never forget Abe the M/h
because like most people on here your birds are part of you.
But M8 Chin up and all i'm saying is don't blame yourself i did and at the end of the day these things can happen
GOOD LUCK IN FINDING HIM M8

Thanks fro the support guys! i have had loads of help from friends looking for her and spent a couple of hours out today in the rain but no joy, then it want dark. Im lucky to have the experience of falconers who are out looking for her too so i still hold some hope. They flew a Harris around the feilds where she was lost and nothing which is a bad sign. But my friend will be back tomorrow with her harris and try some other near by fields.
All your advice has been welcome guys! I will keep you informed.
Many thanks

I know this will be no comfort to you m8 but just think positive, she will be hungry and more than likely some 1 will pick her up and even if they dont if you have done everything correct while training her which im sure you have she will start hunting, even though shes not been entered.
So if the worst do's come to the worst and you dont get her back she will be fine.
Near were i live i have seen three diferent hh free and hunting very well and 1 of them was just off the creance when he got loose, that was a year ago and hes still hunting around the same area,so chances are your bird will stay around near the place she got loose providing theres plenty to kill........so chin up m8 she will turn up:D

thanks guys !!! Ive not given up its just im sorry worried for her. I will be out again looking for her but there has been alot of wind around her lately and im thinking she may have hitched a ride some distance on it now. Dont worry i havnt given up but each day makes it harder to find her as there is so many places she could be now. Also there is alot more Falconers around than i thought and im also worried an Chav one may have got hold of her. You just never know.
Thanks for the support it means alot really!

good luck in finding your harris murph, the weather isnt at all bad for her at the moment although its bloody hard to convince yourself it isnt in this type of situation, and it is always a good thing to remind yourself that the HH is intelligent enough to sit it out tucked up someplace for a rest from getting mobbed by those bar steward magpies etc, two sightings is very positive and chances are when she gets really hungry and tries to hunt you will have sightings coming in regularly, that is how i have found it, i have been there too in the pitch black with lamping torch standing at the base of trees looking up and calling softly hoping to hear those bells tinkle. got mine back after almost two of the lousiest weeks of my life. am sure you will get yours back too, sites like this one are a moral booster too as youve said just knowing that all the lads are rooting for you too.
best wishes for a successfull got her post very soon.

JUst to keep people up to date. I have continued when i can to look ofr her but time has marched on and there has been no more sightings of her.
No police reports of a bird with bells etc so i am at a loss as what to do now. All i do now is go from place to place hoping to get a sighting but on speaking to people nobody has seen her.
Anyway i thought i would let you guys know.

Murph don't give up hope. I lost a Harris a few years ago in a storm that took the roof off my avierys. She was seen for a couple of days and then vanished for three wks. she ended up close to where she was lost even though there had been a further two storms. As mad as hell when she was recaught but settled down again after a few days.
Good Luck and keep looking.
Might be worth looking where you lost her.
