Hi All
In view of recent events, who thinks its a good idea that transmitters should have visible serial numbers that can be registered along with your birds in an indpendant body like the IBR (for example). On the sale or purchase of the telemetry then ownership will transfer with a sales docket and registered again (like buying a new car).....
This would go someway to preventing whats happened to Sabs and me as it would make people think twice about stealing transmitters from birds lured down because ownership can be proven if the theif is caught!!!
When you register the transmitter you will give freq' , chan'l & Tune serial number and birds ring numbers that they could be used on that you own and of course your name and address.
I will write a letter/e-mail to L L Electronics, Marshal and others asking them if they will put a visible a serial number on so that this can be acheived ....explaining what happened to me in the process as an example. I will phone up the IBR & Honeybrooks to ask them to add a telemtry register as well...... if this goes someway to preventing transmitter theft it can ONLY be a good thing!
I am sure that the telemtry company that did this would sell more transitters because of the extra security that it would provide!

Griff, I am sure that its a great idea for all the reasons you outlined.
My one reservation would be that once the government knew how many telemetry systems were out there, the B'stds would find a way to tax them / licence them.
But then again, I bet we would all cough up like the law abiding citizens that we all are

Marshall transmitters already have a visible serial number. If bought from Garlands they are also registered to the original owner.

My RT+ has a 6 digit number on the back of the casing........C-***4;
I also put a drop of 'Smart Water' on them. it's invisible but is registered via its 'DNA' make up to me. shows up under UV lighting. Totally 100% :supz:

Is that for real or another "famous" wind up? Sounds a little too good to be true:?:

Go to your local nick or EB4U shop and ask about Smart Water, it cost £60 to buy a pack but we were all given a bottle on a house to house.
Screwfix direct might do something or even 'Google' it..............

the only trouble with numbers on transmiters is that the sort of person who had yours griff would not be detered by some numbers on a transmiter they would simply grind them off

Ok I have found it!
Assuming that it really is safe for birds I guess that it needs to be applied after each moult, and that it doesn't get preened out?

I know Marshall does this as I know of a couple birds that have been returned to their owners from the serial number from Marshall. It was better than the USFWS. They couldn't find the owner from the captive bred band number. It was found after they called Marshall with the transmitter number.

Hi All
Good news is that there is already a system in place re transmitters (that I didnt know about). Transmitters from http://www.falconryelectronics.co.uk have a serial number that can be registered with the IBR or honeybrooks. If purchased directly from Falconry Electronics they will registered to you on their files as well.....

i think the whole system should have a serial number on it reciever and transmitters, i have heard of people getting there recievers stole out of cars when out hunting or if you happen to leave it lying around where you think it is safe ( around fellow falconers) i saw a incident at the falconers fair where a guy was head butted because he was accused of stealing a reciever, don't laugh its true.

I think LL Electronics transmitters have a serial number on the bottom, they're also written on the documents that come with the new tx... I just don't know if LL registers the number with the buyer.
I think it's a great idea Griff!!
