Hi Merger

It would be great to see some pics up on the thread..... I have handled a couple of Mollen hoods and know the sewing style etc used by Adriaan Mollen and his son. If you could take somes pics of the inside of the hoods as well so I can see the stitching. Value all depends condition and proof of "provenance". If you go to my website and look at the "Historical hoods" section and click on Adriaan Mollen....you will see some A1 condition hoods and also a bit more :)

Hi Merger

There u go ...had to touch up the pic a bit to try and get a sharper image etc :) Yes.... they are Mollens (but you know that anyway :) ).... having held the real things in my grubby mits.... the sewing is right and the braces are correct etc The only thing that I cant see is the tooling.... is there any on them? If I could see the tool pattern then that would definatley confirm it for me.

Thanks griff, There doesnt seem to be any tooling on them, They look like a female saker, and two red headed merlins? the old lady said she played with them as a little girl and pulled the plumes off!! but there are traces of bits of red wool inside. Have you got a stand at the fair , if so I will bring them along, so you could get your grubby little mits on another one !! cheers kev riach.

If I can find someone at the fair, trustworthy enough to look after it, Ill bring one along, for viewing by public, it may be the only chance some falconers get to see one, close up.

Ok ,lol, having returned from the fair and, seeing several friends, the mollen puzzle is at an end , quite a few different answers and as Roger upton was not there I could not get his view , but the belief is , that these are not mollens but copys, however copys of about 1910, buy an iIndian hoodmaker, who was given a mollen hood to reproduce?, been as they belonged to the raj, of the time, he either had mollens birds in his possesion, or possiably an army officer at the time gave him the hoods to reproduce, the twine is not mollen, they are not blocked on mollens blocks, and one has the most dainty turks head knot ,on the braces, bearing all this in mind ,I might just put one on ebay, out of curiosity anyway.their still nearly 100, years old!!

Ah ha.... hence no tooling on the hoods.... I did think it was a bit strange...as all the mollens I have seen in mags and in my mitts have tooling :)
