hi all,


i want to know what is the difference between flying:

A. hawks and falcons

B. buzzards and falcons

i just want to know because i never had a hawk or a buzard and never fly them...

hawks are similar just different quarry and i think, especially for hh, hawks stay closer and you hunt it woodland whereas with falcons you usually hunt in open areas! i think!
i think buzzards & hawks are the same im not sure!

True hawks are the accipiters. Buzzards are the buteo's. HH are kinda in there own little world.....Parabuteo.

Falcons are flown in more open spaces than hawks. In the middle east falcons are flown from the fist in a "tail chase" just like most hawks are. Hawks will take in general a more veriaty of quarry in heavier cover than a falcon will. In the US Falcons are almost exlusively flown from a pitch on "feather".

Buzzards are generally(U.S.) flown from trees as the falconer walks threw a grove of trees or a hedgerow. Buzzards are generally flown more on ground quarry or "Fur". But can take the occasional "feather".

Parabuteo's can be flown either way, are faster off the fist than a buzzard and slower than a hawk. Now here is where we get into personal opinion. Harris Hawks are smarter(think more) than a buzzard and are more social. In a givin slip a Harris will think as the slip unfolds and take the easiest route to a kill where a buzzard will run on instinct and crash headlong in without really thinking about it.

thank you guys for giving me such useful information and trying to help me ...i was asking these question because i used falcons only and never seen hh or hawks and buzzards hunt only pics of other falconers with their pics ...

also one more thing if there are clips of hawks or buzzards hunting can anyone put them cause i want to see the style of hunting....
