it will only effect big breeders and centres, maybe people could help them out if this does happen? those who breed quail etc, shoot bunnies?

it will definately affect centres. loads of bops mean loads of food!!!!!!! our centre has had to but in more freezers to hold more chicks! private falconers who keep one or two bops will feel the effect too if docs run ou!?!
but i guess you could feed rats or mice, cos isnt only the poultry that gets affected? howver rats and other foods expernsive so its gonna be pretty hard going for a while!!
CZ good idea bout people helping out other falconers!!

Sorry CZ but if chicks are affected then so will quail! If an outbreak occurs near a DOC supplier then they WILL NOT be allowed to move stock off the premises

Its over 60 cases confirmed in Germany now, still no problems with doc. The poultrys are not effected as the threat is from the outside (wild) and not within the hatcherys. They still deliver outside as normal, its just harder rules in who is coming and going to the hatcherys and hygine control.
Only hatcherys within the effected aereas are banned to move

if the hatchery is not in an affected area, surly the freezing process will stop the chicks getting it, so no problem as long as it stays out.

Thats good to know - I assumed it would be like F&M ie total movement restrictions on all associated livestock within the restricted zone.

Well, how germany reacts and how defra reacts can be totally different!!But the main different to remember is that the f and m was within the livestock spreading from farm to farm, the aviam flu at the moment is only a real thret in the wild birds still there have not been one reported case within the EEC where the avian flu has been found in any form of captive birds......yet

If the hatcheries don't get affected, I bet they still double the price and cash in on the situation:twisted: failing that, they'll hold on to them to create a shortage, then put the prices up ............................or am I just being cynical?
