good luck hannah where abouts are you?and ignore the ******s on here if they have never lost a bird then they cant fly much
You should maybe try driveing around where it was last seen with a mag mount arial on the receiver. It doen't want to be left out on the ground in this cold if you can avoid it. Some-times when the Tx arial is in a direct line towards or away from you, you can't get a signal, especialy when the bird is low down. I'm sure you'le get it back eventualy. It's all part of the fun, charactor building! One question does your bird like fish?

never used the jeros telem but our biotrack has a tune knob 1-10. where abouts are you gettin the signal. that then tells you the transmiter is 173.? ....173.1? 173.2? etc etc then you can finely tune it ineven finer. so what was the last frequency that you got a signal at.
I hope I got this right as I have never had to use mine really but do track him occasionally to see if it still works.

Thats a bit harsh ent it. People can loose a bird more than once, if she actuall has lost it before.
You saying you have never ever lost a bird or lost one more than once in its lifetime.

Pitbull, the 1-10 is the tuning level, the channels are either 1-6 or 1-3 depending on what modle you have. It's the chanel no. that determins the frequency...................hth

Of course you "meant to be mean". As you so often are in your asinine posts - remember your contemptible post to Barry re: the death of his Black eagle?
You are an objectionable twerp. You are a student and member of Club 17. How old are you? How many birds have you trained/flown? Not that I give a damn.

When you get the falcon back - throw the system in the bin.

you tell him Hannah
I also got to respond here to the remark of ScottishFalconer. It is not only mean but also very stupid remark. The falconers being longer on this forum here all know Hannah is doing great in falconry. And flying a falcon for that long not loosing them normally is something to be proud of. Even experienced falconers WILL loose a falcon once and a while especially when it is windy. Besides, no falconer who looses a falcon is waiting for the kind of rediculous remark made by ScottishFalconer here.
Wish you lots of succes finding back the falcon Hannah. In case you did not. And normally you will surely get him back in most cases (when wearing the name tags).
Kind regards,
Wilfred

Hannah , not much more I can offer in support than others have posted, & of course I wish you all the fvery best in getting him back. Please do not take this post as any sort of criticism unlike other mean hearted posts, I do hope you'll take this the right way and might be of help.
I beleive you have better weather up there this last week than down here in the east midlands although through bitter past experience ( have lost 2 falcons for good , 1 saker when i was your age and a pere about 5 yrs ago) most of my best falcons and hawks have been out at least a one night.
Due to weather conditions/ reports down here I have taken the decision to ground my falcons fro the last week & if it is of help to listers and is not seen as arrogant or being snide, I would be happy to post on a thread about recovering lost hawks/ not losing them in the fisrt place .
Keep looking Hanna:heart: keep a good heart, and be tenacious please do not give up hope , my thoughts are with you ( please pm me if you think I can be of direct help) HTH ATB J

Hi Hannah
Im so sorry to hear about Shiro!! I know the feeling and its so devastating, I lost my female g/s over two nights 2 years ago, and I was absolutely sh***ing myself!!!
I lost a male saker once and he was picked up 2 weeks (!) later, but this was in the summer.
However, my best friend has flown the same parent reard red tail for 7 years. She lost him in moult of the block one day, he was pig fat.......
Obviously no telemetry or bells as he was moulting, she spend days looking but he was gone.
8 month later her two children came walking back from the bus stop, they saw this bird following them in the distance, when they came home it landed in the tree in the garden, they phoned their mum and told her that her redtail was back...
She did not belive them but hurried home, and there he was, sat in a tree, she threw a chick on the floor on a string, he came straight down for it, she then crawled closer as he was eating and could pick him up!!
She still got him today!!
So dont worrie, they do mostely get back to you.
If there is anything we can do just phone us (you have the number on the website), we are out of the country to Friday, and hopefully you will have him back by then, if not, please phone us
I really hope and wish you find him

Hannah,
Has he been entered ?
Jim.
Don't give up! There can't be many falconers, & I stress the word falconers who can say they've never lost a bird. All be it temporarily. I too flew them before the advent of telemetry & found crows an invaluable help in recovering a lost hawk. The batterys in your Tx should last a week so just keep driving round in outward spirals until you get a signal. It's surprising how far they can travel. Good luck!

ScotsFalconer........It is very nice of you to appologise to Hannah at this late date and I am sure she will appreciate it. However no matter what mood you are in you should think twice about making comments like that before you post them.
As I understand it you are 15 years old and never flown or trained a bird yourself, you have no experiance of what Hannah was going through and the rest of the Forum members were all concerned about the incident and still are this happens to us all at one time or another. So in future please engage your brain before you put you Mouth or in this case fingers into gear.

Hi M8 then he should have thought even more about what he said then, if the boot was on the other foot how would he have felt. Sorry M8 he should not have said anything like that to Hannah and I appreciate his appology but none the less it was a big mistake. I do not slag someone off just because I am in a bad mood.
The matter is now closed as far as I am concerned. All we have to worry about now is giving any moral support or physical help to Hannah that we can and just hope she gets her bird back safely

when he loses a bird he will know how it feels, and it will of course happen one day, any negative comments at a time like that are uncalled for. I'm pretty sure hannah is spending every possible moment looking for shiro, and I know when I lost my kes I also couldn't sleep. Its a horrible time emotionally physicly and mentally exhausting, I hope you find him soon hannah I'm sure you will soon get a call from the IBR, My kes was pestering old ladies hoping they would take her home lol

hannah any news regards the microlight?? In my opinion with a jeross system and my memory of your area it would be an ideal solution as the jeross telemetry aint that crash hot when low to the ground and anything that can give you a better reception has to be worth it..

hey,
went to beacon fell, managed to get a signal in the car park, very loud and audible bleep so that was great. Could pin-point a direction but guess who forgot the map... :whoops:
so we went down a bit and kept on checking for the signal, lost it soon as we neared normal lvl and then only picked it up on a bridge near myerscough.
but we got the map out now, got our area to check and low points that could hide the tx. thats tomorrow.
Hopefully we can move the date for the microlight a day forward, thu if poss, so the battery should still be running by then.
Looking more hopefull, acricle in the post (lancashire evening) tomorrow with my an shi's pic and radio lancashire has agreeed to put shi's info out regular.

Try to det a direction from two different high points, then you can draw the directions out on your map.
Where the lines cross gives you an area to start working in.

got out of school early (only missed PSE - boring - parenting and stuff lol)
so we went to beacon fell again, found the signal and worked our way back down, dad found more high spots with a signal. Cut a long story short we tracked a phone mast for the full 5 hours. Horrid thing was it gave out the exact same bleep like the tx.
most unhappy to say the least. So with the chatter cut from that, we have no signal at all.
but keeping optomistic, cus he was on the radio today, papers tomorrw for def and poss northwest tonight if they e-mail me back. might get a sighting sooner or later.

lol, when he comes, if he wants to hunt thats what he's gona do. I got no problem with him hunting! just didnt think he was fit enough but obviously he is!
a guy spotted him (exactly the same bird from the photograph he said) took a morehen out and ate it on the field near him. A nother guy said he suprised a pidgeon and killed an ate that in his own garden.
yeah lol, dont need that jerros system, tis **** to say the least. Will save up for a good luksander or martin jones one.
Got the vets on standby aswell, so he will be off their once he returns an got a rest and good grub inside.
lol amazon - he'll need the map! But he's havin a good scout around lol, he'll know whats what next time!
Saker-Mad : first bird was the Sakret, but i was still learning a lot and he died of sour crop in july unfortunatly. Was interested in falconry from adges 5 when we moved to preston, then started owletts course when i was like, 8 then falconry course when i was 13 then volunteering. Loved it lol.
UPDATED MOVEMENTS!!!!!
He was seen 11:30am very near me, in a garden - so tomorrow its all go go go!!!! The boy who lives their, with hsi mum, has flown barn owls and he has a leather glove, and they have raw beef in the frige and might try to tempt him down, he flew towards their son, but quickly turned away wen the son turned around! so he's looking, definatly looking!

It might be a good idea to take a couple of quail to use as a lure. If he's been killing for his-self & sleeping off a full crop, it'le take something a bit more appetising than a normal lure to tempt him down & you can always peg one down & wind him in if he's a bit skittish.I hope you do get him back! Stewigan, Get back into your pram
There was no attitude, just the best advice I can give regarding the telemetry system etc.
I said the telemetry system should be sold to some muppet with a Harris!
(There are a lot about! <g>)
I did in no way imply that every Harris hawker was a muppet.
Your interpretation of my meaning is at fault here not me and the advice I choose to impart.
Surely, you conceed that a muppet can own a Harris hawk and the said muppet may be liley to part with his cash for a "Bargain" and allow Hannah to recoup some of her unwise investment.
Next time read a little harder before you set your stall out and if you still intend to do so dont do it on a thread posted by a young girl who simply wants her falcon back

If and when you get him back your getting a 2x wild hacked bird that as you say is entered now!
Not a display robot, Make the most of it ;)
I would have this hawk in a second.............gotta get it fit and into routine but it would be fun to instill some manners into the wayward charge!!!
Not sure if it would be any better at killing...but it would be fun having a go..:supz: :supz:

Stewigan, Get back into your pram
There was no attitude, just the best advice I can give regarding the telemetry system etc.
I said the telemetry system should be sold to some muppet with a Harris!
(There are a lot about! <g>)
I did in no way imply that every Harris hawker was a muppet.
Your interpretation of my meaning is at fault here not me and the advice I choose to impart.
Surely, you conceed that a muppet can own a Harris hawk and the said muppet may be liley to part with his cash for a "Bargain" and allow Hannah to recoup some of her unwise investment.
Next time read a little harder before you set your stall out and if you still intend to do so dont do it on a thread posted by a young girl who simply wants her falcon back
Alright Treacle  your right bb it was my interpretation, and i agree a muppet may well own an harris but could also own an imprint gos for or any other bird for that matter, the best place for that telem set is the bin or for someone who keeps budgies

Hey,
Shi was spotted at cureden vally park at about 7, we shot down in the car with lure, chicks, glove, hood etc and walked along the high path. Saw a large white bird floating over the motorway following the tree line, with pale underside and darker back on the wings. Something glinted everytime it faced the sun. If the telem is still on, then it must have been shi lol. He was a good 50ft or higher up, coming down and landing the tree's. Called and swung the lure, no response. But my mate will have another go early in the morning for me (thx) But he's def there. Nice spot - ducks, crows, pheasant etc. Not suprised! Glad to finally see him, not great news but i've located him and some very nice fellow falconers have agreed to help me lure him in, or trap him if it comes to that lol.
Im much happier lol.
(said I'd keep u updated!)

Nothing wrong with trapping a loose bop

In fact you would probably get more flack for letting a non indigenous species loose.

I thought there was a law stating no bird of prey shall be trapped, whether captive bred or wild, Happy to stand corrected if anyone knows the correct law.

I can understand no trapping of a wild bop unless under license but a captive bred?

How would you get a hacked bird back?
You could always say that luring is a form of trapping, ie enticing bird down with a false lure whereupon you grab it?
GoneHawking
28-04-2006, 10:25 PM
didn't tony james of the bfc have to apply for a license to trap hacked merlins?? can't rember the exact story, maybe some of the big breeders can help.
You pick the bird up from a lure with a gloved hand at the birds own will, to trap a bird with nooses etc or a bow trap is not legal as far as I know, these are two different things and not to be confused.

I think it depends on how trap is interperated. it is certainly not legal to use an unattended trap, but if you can lure him down and wind him up with a creance line if you cant get close enough, i'm pretty sure thats legal

all i was told that it was on 173. I thought then that that was it. sorry if no-one told me there was more then that. I thought the 10channel telem only had smaller frequency and mine was just 173. Jerros sytem.
thx everyone else

Its on 418 & can only be picked up by another jeross or a red tag or non-coloured hawkfinder/e-track/microsystem (blue/green dial hawkfinder/skytrack is on 433 & won't pick it up)
Try from the top of Pendle hill. Take compass & OS

PS I just saw you located him. Comments still apply for tomorrow. If he heads my way I have a 418 set here.

Claire unattended traps usually mean such traps as Larsen or cage traps, if you were to use the bow trap (net)or a noose jacket on a lure pigeon you would be present, but none the less they are still illegal methods of reclaiming a hawk that is deemed lost and been at liberty for a period of time, as for the method of winding up I am unsure about the legality although I would have thought technically you are recapturing a bird that doesn't want to be caught, ie: traped.
As I said before I am not saying I agree with these laws and I am not an authority on the laws concerned with trapping, maybe someone with more knowledge can add to this.

Hiya,
thanks for the help, been on a weekend away (flippin ace!!! lol) and a mate has ben very very nice and kept a look out, said he saw a white bird with the glint but again dissapeared over the hill. So we will get together and use 2 car's in two locations close to where he goes to sleep.
And for ppl with falcons, dont make the mistake of buying a jerros system as they are pretty much useless - bell's have more range lol. Also, mine managed to direct me to a telephone mast, so I'm going to buy a proper set, have been noseying through the telem pages and still deciding and saving the money.
I mean trap him with the creance method, but I'd have to read into trapping him and from the sounds of it its going to take some time to get permit. But, we are still holding out.
Keep you updated on anything new or exciting.
Thx again, nice to know there's ppl willing to help and support!
