At the Raptor Foundation we always do, little blighters sit sulking in a tree in the summer and you can't see them or they jump on a mouse in a wheat field! LOL

Yea it's a good idea when there's alot of cover.

OMG don't you just hate it when they go "mouceing".

We have one who's totally entranced by them - stamps around in the grass to make them run and then just watches them run to another bit of cover then does it all over again - just loves watching them run!

bells mate-im sure sooner or later you'll regret not having them on him.

I know they have saved me a lot of time this season making it easier to locate the bird on kills in thick cover.

do you fly him with telem on?

yours

yea telemety even if just going for a little fly. I think one of the reasons i haven't used bells too often is because i haven't had the mount fitted on the tail this season for some reason and the weight of the bell would pull the jesses through the anklets.

a tail bell is particularly usefull on a harris (like a lot of hawks) as they allways shake threir tails regularly. i know what you mean a bell free hawk would be good for many reasons but personally i would never fly any bop without at least one bell!

we use bells!! just telemetry isnt really adequate. you could find it to locate whereabouts your bop is but when it comes down to locating the exact tree then bells are more suitable, as bb said they shake their tails so much its kinda hard not to find them when your soo close!

2 questions.

1. Will a bell effect the hunting of a bird.e.g the rabbit etc may hear it?

2.Does anybody know where you can get a tailmount for telem and a bell all in 1. I have seen one before but can't remember where.

Andy Peel does a tailmount for telem with bell already fitted.

telemitry is a must but not a magic solution, many, many good birds are permenantly lost every year wearing it i think a lot of recent falconers have lost the ability to use good basic feildcraft to recover their birds. relying to much on the magic box of electronics. this is why bells are still a neccesity. i personally dont like putting bells or telemetry around the birds neck, i will get slated off lots of m8s for this but im not happy with this arrangement at all. i would like to know more about back packs though. anyone?

Always, Always, Always? Its A Must M8 Dont Fly A Bird Ever Without Them. Thats My Views.
The Amount Of Times You Turn Your Back For A Split Second Then Look Back And Your Bird Has Moved And You Cant See It, But With Bells, In The End It Will Move And You Can Spot It, But With Out Them You Could Spend All Day Looking For A Bird That Is Sat Ten Feet From You.
I Was Out With My Fhh And She Went After A Rabbit And Caught It About Tree Hundred Yrds Away And I Had No Idea Where She Was Because I Didnt See Her Go Just Heard The Bells When She Left The Tree.
It Took Me 10 Mins To Find Her, By This Time She Had Broken Into The Rabbit, And Only Because I Could Locate Her By Listening To The Faint Sound Of The Bells.
If She Didnt Have Them On I Might Not Have Got Her Back.
I Would Never Fly Any Bird Without Bells.

Bells are the best method of finding birds in thick under growth and bramble easy to locate. Also it keeps me in buisness.LOL.
I find a tail bells is the best on a bird as i think barbary boy said hawks love to move their tails.
I would stick a bells on as bells are only cheap and they could help you locate your bird one day.

Yea i have got bells but i haven't used them for a little while because they kept pulling the jesses out of the anklets.
I will next season and now i am looking for a tailmount that holds both bell and telem.
