hi everyone,
I'm afraid I've been one of those annoying annoymous readers for a while on this site! Have finally got around to joining, so hello!
what began as a mild curiosity in falconry has quickly turned into a serious hobby. I am lucky enough to leave only a few miles from Julian Stevens so he has been putting up with me for the past 8 months or so! There is no way that I can own a bird myself in my current circumstances so I am content to learn as much as I can by following Julian about and helping - hopefully! with training, hunting etc. At the moment I have had most contact with Peregrines, and know little about others species. I'm interested also a lot in the tradition and history side of things as it sort of goes along with my job - I'm a classical musician specialising in pre-1650 music and instruments, so am interested in anything that was going on at that time!
best wishes,
Fiona

hi fiona, wellcome, if your interested in pre-1650 music i would talk to terry from kentish falconry, he was involved in the music business around about that period?

welcome again and if your looking for the birds they would have flown back then, they flew a bird according to class from what i understand, a kestrel for a peasant, sparrowhawk for a squire, goshawk was known as the chefs hawk, falcons were generally left for nobles and the king, the merlin was a "lady's falcon" in nobility and a hobby was a nobles childs bird... not totally sure if this is absolutely accurate but thats what i remember! good luck

At least we are talking 1650 AD and not 1650 BC when you were involved Keith

Hmm Bhawk I think you mean as per the boke of StAlbans (~1486) very sorry to say but your post is misquoted & unfortunatly inaccurate, when I get time I will post correct quatation of species if this helps. i do hope you are not offended by my reply ATB J
