Looks like my first season may have came to a premature( steady!) end.

Out in the snow yesterday, in the country, with junior, missed a pheasant, but he spotted another.

As i was heading towards where he was going, disaster!

Welly gave way, i slipped, and down i go.

Junior dives into gorse, and out flies a big cock ! (steady!)

Im in agony as my right ankle balloons up, and im miles from the car.
Drag / limp back to the car , junior by side , and somehow, with one and a bit legs, manage to drive the 5 miles home.

Phone MRS T, and im off to Hospital.
Sprained ankle and damaged ligaments the outcome - im off work - good, but seriously disappointed for Junior, cause im out every day, and hes a fit little ******, feel for the wee man, because although its my first year as an owner, i just cant get used to not being out in the country every day with him.

On the plus side, MRS T has said i can get a ferret next year, its what i need , as most of the land we have is high, hilly stuff, with warrens galore, except for the newly aquires 3800 acres of flat land nearby.(woohoo)

Any ferret advice welcome via pm thanks.

Steve

You live in the right land for the "medicinal stuff". Hope it's not too soon before you are back on your feet.

No whisky for me - gives you ginger hair, beard etc, makes you talk funny and wear tartan skirts.

IKEAS Pear cider - now thats a cure.

Strange m8, I seem to remember a trip out with you when my wellies kept the water in ! (he 'forgot' to mention that the burn I was about to walk through was nearly 3' deep, I was to busy watching the bird, didn't realise until my leg disappeared up to my nuts.) (how come that never happens in the summer when the water is nice & warm ?)

I don't know if it would help you, but Army surplus stores do sell infantry boots. Offers support for your ankles, and if you take good care of them (this means cleaning them when they're muddy or dusty, polishing them often (it builds up a waterproof layer on them), and giving them a good soak in polish (coat them in a thick layer of polish, leave them alone for a couple of hours, then wipe off the excess) when the weather's nice enough you can do without, they're very waterproof. I recommend Parade Gloss (sometimes called Guardsman Gloss/Polish), takes a bit of work, but it's a whole lot better for your leather than normal shoe polish.

They also sell waterproof BDUs, which definitely keep the water out.

Also, hope you don't have too many problems with your ankle, and hope you have a speedy recovery :)

Hi Steve.
Sorry your season has ended so painfully, but pain is a great teacher. Used to go out over the hills in my wellies untill one day when I was comming down a tricky incline my foot slipped the welly came off and I slid down about 30m an my **** over some not so smooth ground. Couldn't find the welly and my ankle swole up like a balloon. Had to hobble back to the van about a mile away. Nothing was broken but I limped about for a couple of weeks. Only go out wearing a good pair of walking boots now, pleanty of ankle support and the worst thing that has happened since then is wet feet due to wading through streams. Hope it gets better soon.
