hello im gordon, new to the sight ,im also the person who put ad for hacked harris;s on ibr birdmart, there are alot of benefits in hacking the harris, sure you don;t have to,great bird all the same but it can and do help in its developement,it does help prevent the imprinting proceess, i use that word in very broad terms and i do not understand the entire imprinting process but i do know a few ways of preventing it in the first place, hacking the harris hawk does help in preventing screamers/ niosey birds,it gets them fitter quicker and they fly even better,it helps them grow-up and learn to be more independent therefor reducing the birds focus on you,i hack my harris;s , the ones im working with 2 or 3 times a year if the need arises, periods at hack are not for long, less than a week athough i;ve had a 4yr old female out for 11 weeks, she never had dependencies and at first she was lost but after a week she showed up in the valley and there she stayed, i tried to catch her but not to hard because i also felt it was doing her good, it certianly did.any questions only to happy to try to answer, i;ve been breeding for 6 years and a practicing falconer for 9,i try to breed quality birds, everything is left to the parents including the incubation,i;ve never had any complaints with any bird sold and alot of falconers phone back to say how happy they are with the bird, buy for now, gordon.
