I only had 1 reply to my original message,i'll try for one last time.Has anyone got any peregrine feathers they dont want{i'll pay for the cost of p+p}The reason I would like them is that when the peregrines breed in inner London their is a local wildlife for all trailer which sets up a view point where the public can see the birds. At the viewpoint there is telescopes, binoculars and general info on peregrines. It would be nice if we could show the public{especially the kids}some real peregrine feathers.Your help would be welcome and needed.I'm new to this so I will leave my contact details here,I imagine that there is a another way of getting hold of me,but as this site is so complicated{to me}here it is davecjohnson@msn.com
Thanks Dave

Dave..........At the moment we can't help but we will in a couple of months if this helps.
FHF has made a valid point that you will need an Atricle 10 cert for the feathers they are classed as a derivative and can not be sold but even if we gave them to you as a gift you would still have to have a Art 10 because they are going on Public Display and in Law would still be treated in the same way as a Live bird. Untill October this year Art 10's are still free so it will cost next to nothing to comply with the Law.

I have plenty of Peregrine feathers, but have not responded to date because of probs with art 10's. However another problem is that if you are going to put them on display , the feather once moulted seems to lose it's blue grey tinge and end up looking more like a feather from a red hawk (immature peregrine) whilst adult peregrines finish the moyult during late summer/ early autumn I am convinced that even afater hard penning , some nutrient seems to be being fed through the feather follicle? does this make sense HTH J

trouble is Dave this will not happen ( at least from me ) as I said I have loads of feathers , but from different peregrines, and unless I logged exactly which falcon they came from, then I cannot apply ofr an article 10 for each feather, without knowing whcich falcon it has come from ( possibility of about 10 different falcons over the years!)if that makes sense. best to find a Pere keeper with one hawk that is prepared to apply for art 10's for you HTH J

if you want to give the feathers away you dont need an A10 :yawinkle:

You wouldn't need a A10 to give them away, Dave would need one/s to display them though.

Dave............. Where ever you get your Feathers please don't put them on display without an Article 10 Certificate. It is illegal.
Like Screeming I have plenty of Pere Feathers but I don't dare give them to you as I do not know which bird they came from. All you need is a dipstick RSPB officer and or a Police Wildlfe Liason Officer to ask to see you Art 10 and you are in deep **** M8. It carries a 5 year ban and a big fine for displaying then even if it is for Educational purposes.
Just wait untill someone can sort some out for you with Art 10's and you will be fine. Later in the season we will also be able to give you some infertile Peregrine Eggs as well, again with Art 10's just contact me around June time.

Hello Terry,
I was led to believe you could give the feathers as a gift, BUT Dave would need to apply for an A10 to display them - is this incorrect ?

Yours Jim.

Yes you can give Feathers as a gift but you may not sell them or display them and to do so you would need an Art10 for each feather.
If you gave them to Dave he would have to apply and would need a covering letter from whoever gave them to him listing the Birds ring numbers and Art 10 numbers before he could get his display Art 10.
If I gave you a feather to imp your bird technically you would need an art 10 but who is going to check your bird to see if it's Imped and then get a DNA test on it to prove it's not your birds original feather imped back in.
The Law goes a little too far sometimes but what can we do?

Many Thanks for your info Terry.I will abide by the law.One thing which is puzzling me is who applies for the ARTICLE 10,the person suppling the feathers or infertile eggs{which I am interested in}or the person recieving them ie me.And if it is me how would I go about getting one,ie who would I apply to.I'll be in touch in june about any infertile eggs {if any}you have. Thanks again Dave

It would be easier for me to apply for them if they come from me as all the forms etc are stored on my PC and all I have to do is print them off and sign them and get them off to DEFRA Bristol CITES/Article 10 section.
It's not difficult to apply and it's not worth the risk of non-compliance

Hi Dave.........Happy to help M8 but please remind me a bit later as with the onset of the breeding season we will be under pressure and have a tendancey to forget to do things like this.
