Best digital scales?

Where can i buy some really high quality, accurate to 1g or more reliable scales? I have seen loads about all look like the same cheap ones i have in the kitchen with some astro turf stapled on, then put on sale for an extortionate price. Also they all seem to weigh upto 11lbs, i am probably wrong but wouldn't these be less accurate than ones that only weigh upto about 4lbs?
Are there any worth buying?

I Have Purchased Several Scales Off Ebay, So Far I Find That A Digatial Scale Will Only Last For A Year Or Two At Best, I Would Look Into Getting A Triple Beam Scale. They Are Much Better

I personally do not like digital scales.

If they go out of calibration you have no way of knowing without doing a daily test. However, a 4oz solid weight always weighs 4 ozs and if your balance scales balance before you put your weights on them, then the reading you get is correct. I know it's old fashioned, but it eliminates any risk of inaccuracy.

Just my opinion.

they look identical to those sold elsewhere for £40, and identical to some from argos for £10...i don't understand the pricing.

Barry-I have never used digitial either because of the reasons you stated. But surely by now they will be accurate? It will be useful to have a set in the car aswell.

I had always used a set of balance scales until about4 years ago and started using the Argos variety. I check them before I use them with a known weight (the perch) and the've never altered 1g in all that time. Sometimes I'll bung on extra weights just to dbl check and the've been ok.

If they started to read off tomorrow I'd chuck them and go and spend another tenner or so on the next set.

Or have I just been lucky ?

Agree...unless you want to weigh something BIG, 2 pairs of Argos cheapest. I put a perch on one pair and if I think I may have a strange reading stand the scales with perch on the second scales and see if I get the same reading. I also check them some times with weights, but they have never been wrong unless the battery has gone !!! Only problem I have is that I fix them down to a base because one bird tends to jump off and send them on to the floor as they are a bit light weight. Got old fashioned balance ones, but cheap electronic are my favorite.

I use these- bit more expensive than argos but excellent quality, accurate and pretty robust- had them 3 yrs plus now without a problem

I looked into digital scales when i started because it seemed easier to read etc even though I'd been bought up with balance type. I got hold of some nearly new ones from a friends wife who couldn't get on with them for cooking etc and gave them a test of knocking them about a bit as it would likely be when the bird leaps on and off. Had loads of trouble resetting them constantly and gave up in the end and stuck with the balance ones.

I tell everybody this. With any scale you should have a standard. A standard is something of known weight. Preferably close to what you are weighing. Use it and use it often. With digitals the batteries can go out and will give you a false reading. Balance scales can go out also with use. Even tho they are balanced at Zero doesn't mean they are good through their whole range. Our Triple beam came with a couple extra weights for weighing high weights. I check my scale once or twice a week with these. If a scale is off it really doesn't matter as long as it is consistently off.

Well i am off to buy some digital ones now, i will make a perch for it and see how it goes. Gives me something to do if nothing else, and i will check them regularly.

cz ive had my scales from argos for 4 years now they are salter scales and i find them bang on they go down to 1/8oz and up to 5lb ,ive dropped they and left them outside and its rained but when ive put a weight on them there always spot on and cost £22 and very easy to use

by far the best digital scales are avairy they make the ones in the post offices but not the best for weighing bop ben long does some counter balance scales that are far superior and will out last any other scales

For 25 years I have used balance scale but last year got myself some of ben longs digy scales they cost £80 but they are well worth it here is a picture of them. (BUT):x 4 weeks ago my Gos flew really **** and I mean really ****. When I got home I almost sold her I was that sick. The same day I put my two harrises on the scales took them out they would not follow on very well at all I went home sick of my life. I had a good go at my wife as we do when weare in a mood she then told me that she knocked one of the legs on tha scale, do not get me wronge you could not tell that it was damaged , but when I got a 1 lb weight out it registered as 13ozs so at the end of the day my Gos who flys at 2lb 15ozs was really 3lb 2ozs that is why she was **** and my harris which flys at 2lb 3ozs was really 2lb 6ozs .I have know went back to my balance scales which you can not go wrong with
if you are going to use digy scale make sure you check then often

sorry if I am encroaching on this thread , but the best digital scales you can get are avery BALANCE Scales ( we have about 6 for sale at present , ex shop scales , but will NEVER let you down , with just over a complet set of weights you will be able to regularly check thios out . one of the best folks for advice on this if I remember right on this is Outflying as he is a weights an measure chap? Perfectly acceptable providing you use a standard weight that is a similar weight to your bird prior to every weighing just to check.
Ther can drift quickly and by a long way!!!
