I'm sure i read in previous post about people asking about using dogs under eagles and being sneered at. I think someone asked if his brittany was suitable.

Pitbull,
I don,t know who it is but I work my dogs under my eagles and wouldn,t have it any other way.The dog is as much a part of the team as the eagle.
From day one I always have the dogs running about when training the eagles.
I have had the situation where my older male is waiting on with a beating line including 6 strange dogs underneath him and he doesn,t bat an eyelid yet he won,t hesitate to chase a fox if he sees it.
Regards.

The guys name was clint, i dont see why anyone would see a problem working a dog under an eagle? Many people do it, especially if you want to achieve good waiting on flights. I know people who work germans and vizlas and have worked an english with eagles myself.

its a shame you were unable to give your input a few months ago, as the bloke was given a right roasting

Again mews jesses on a big eagle is normal, one, because some, goldies especially, can be a bit snatchy with their feet when hooded. But more commonly people use the slits in the jesses to pin the bird down with a walking stick when on quarry (shove the stick through the slits and into the ground), some goldies have a habit of leaving the quarry to perch on your face or some other limb when approached, so it just makes life a bit easier. Its one of those things that every individual has an opinion on and its one of those "agree to disagree" debates in my opinion. Just been reading your training thread cooperman, interesting!

Absolutely agree with the sentiment on this one. I do however always think that the training at some point in the history of the eagles has been mucked up when eagles are like this on kills. A little time and patience in trainingcan avoid all this on kills, and should be perfected!

May be wrong, but it sounded like an imprint too. I am sure some one on here has Hungarian vizlers and an eagle ????
Are you out there????
Oh and yes you can fly an eagle over a Brittany if you train every thing correctly. Will try and find a pic.

My personal preferance is a Dog GWP. My theory being if ever the worst should happen and eagle were to have a go at the dog, at least the dogs got a fair chance of survival. This realy is worst case scenarion, but better safe than sorry. The key is thurough training and familiarity.

i dont think the idea was sneered at .
It just sounded a suspicious question coming from someone who claimed to already have experience with birds and dogs.
