Rocking horse pooh at the moment. There are a couple of people trying to breed them. Young will no doubt be retained and put back into pairs so you have little chance. I know of one for sale at the mo but I doubt youd want to pay the £12,0000 asking price.

£120000 or £12000.. anyway fyi - we re-introduced a female bonelli's into the wild locally at Gibraltar two years ago.. most of these hawk eagle breeders will not sell and will be captive breeding for conservation..

Not the case ineurope and UK people are trying to breed them to up the numbers in captivity. Therefore making them more available for falconry purposes.

i looked around last year to see wat prices they were and it was around 10 thousand to twelve thousand pounds for one so aint cheap but they are brilliant for falconry from what i hear wat about the african hawk eagle there very similair and are even considered a sub species and are around half the price

About 7 years ago I got a call from an old guy to come and see a bird he had bought. The guy was 65yrs old and had never actually hunted a raptor but he talked a good game. Went to his house and in a small weathering was a feather perfect ,stunning female Bonneli,s about 6 years old.I could not believe this knobjockey had got this and he had paid £6000 for it. A week later all the tail feathers and primaries were broken and he swapped it for 2 steppes eagles. At the time I wish I could have afforded it but it was out the question.

a friend told me to post that it was a freind that had it and it was brilliant on hare and other things but he likes them. he had to fix her beck .because she was chasing a hare and the hare went under a tiny hole under a wall in a feild an the bonnellies hit the wall. he doesnt give a **** about money a bird is a bird in his eyes.

I know one here in Belgium that has a pair Bonelli's but he has them only a few weeks/months. So I don't expect that he has any breeding this year.

You can try www.falconiformes.nl, seems they have also Bonelli's.

bonelli's are great birds, hansome and agressive too
but bonelli's are endangered in europe, there are around 700 breeding pairs in europe today, over 80% are in spain next is greece and portugal. '
this is why i support the ideea of a big breeding center and an campain of repopulation, if the autorities are conviced , we could breed eagles in two direction, first we could repopulate the wild and create and good genetic pool and second is the purpose of falconry. great ideea is'nt it?

In 2004 and 2006 our gathering of eagles was attended by a Bonellis, a female in '04 and a male in '06. Both imprinted, both took white hares and now both are in the same breeding project. I have to say they were both magnificent. The female in '04 was worked over the dog from waiting on in a good wind. All in all she was probably up for 2 1/2 hours at varying pitch. Sadly after all that the hare she took was in a flight off the fist. The male this year was probably more reckless in his attacks and more brutal when he did hit game. The thud as he hit the ground after a miss or as he hit game was audible from 100 yards away. He took two hares. This bird showed no inclination to wait on. If they breed this year the offspring will not be for sale!
Would I want one? Is The Pope catholic?

Barry.

the bonelli's that hit the wall was owned by a mr Gary Balchin and had to have a new beak constructed, this was around 12-14 years ago, she flew at around 6lb and an absolute pleasure on the eye! i agree with the african hawk eagle being a better proposition in the uk, i found someone breeding the AHE, in south africa a couple of years ago they had 2 pairs 1 pair immature and were producing 1 young per year price was 7000 euro's it was when he said he'd got 19 names on a waiting list i decided against iT

Hi K, this will make you go green, I have a good friend who works for UAE royal family, two years ago he trapped, what he says is a huge female,, shes still in an avairy, he never got round to flying her, chatting to him before xmas, and said as soon as he can export,, avian flu,, its mine if I want it, I said I let him know, I got the impression he had been feeding it cats, and whatever other mammals he slung in, but he did say he could go in and sit with her, when shes feeding no problem, if I decide to get her in I will give you a ring mate.

I have just started picking up mine a few days ago. She is just restless around her avairy highly nervous so I decided to train her up to get her more use to me before the moult. She is surprisingly easy to get into and even started jumping to my fist on her second day.
