Do you know the birds' history?

Welcome mate.
How good the bird is will depend on who trained it and how experienced the falconer currently flying it is.

how much experience do you have and do you have any kind of history of the bird?

Hi craigy..........Welcome to the MadHouse or the IFF M8 hope you will find all the help you are looking for here.
Could you please fill in your profile for us as you will end up with 50 people asking you the same question. Just a little detail will do, your age, rough location etc have a look at how some of the others have answered and just give the info you want to give. Then when you feel a little braver enter your location on the Googlemap, you will find it on the controll bar at the top of the page.
Can you give us a little more detail about the RedTail like has it been flown before and also if you have any experiance with Hawks or Falcons. Red Tails are good hunting birds but you might have your work cut out for you if it has never been flown before but it is not an imposible task to get it hunting. There might be an IFF Member near you with experiance and they might be able to help you
Anyway enjoy the Forum M8 and I will see you around

A mrt ais agreat hunting bird. Very aggresive, able to take a wide range of quarry and a good size for someone without much experience like yourself. This just means the bird will suffer less ill affects when you try to take his weight down than, say, a falcon.
What sort of accomodation do you have for him? Aviary size etc.
All the best with him m8 and, oh yeah, welcome to the forum:D

Do you know anyone from around your way that flys BOP's? the best way to learn is to be around people with lots of experience traing and hunting BOP's. Also you should try to get your hands on some good books. Sod the shops, librarys cheap as chips.
Not much you can do with him at this time of year hunting wise though. Roll on sept:supz:

Let me know if you want to ask any questions about the place and I'll answer what I can

Craig,
just read through your books as you would usually BUT seeing as you have the bird already then i suggest you either read bloody fast or read the basic manning parts just so the pair of you can start building your relatonship and take it from there.
ideally though you would have had plenty of time to swot up and the likes, but never mind, you have to start working
