I just bought the cheapest goretex I could find (2 bucks for a whole meter square!) and then I cut a strip, folded the edges and sewed it together. Then just make the braces like you would from leather - button jesses with a slit in them. Worked a treat! Way better than leather braces.
Greg has mentioned that using a hot penny to make the slits is a good idea because it doesnt leave any frayed edges, will have to try that next time. Sorry no pictures yet, maybe when I make the next set I'll do this.
