05 Female Harris hawk

Hiya,

the beast arrived today! I seriously didnt think she'd be sooo big! She's 2lb 14 and jumping - quite keen! Pure Finnish told me she'll at 2lb 6, but hunt at 2lb 3 or 4.

she's started moulting (dropped a tail when she arrived!) so I'll let her finish, she's been a brilliant girl, catching a few pheasant and rabbit, and with a few ruffled feathers from hunting.

she's got huge feet, and she's weathering out in the garden, enjoying the sunshine, but not liking the gust's of wind.

hi hannah.she,s big girl my fhh has just lost her first wing feather to as i was geting ready to go out it,s a bumer but that is it for her to she fly,s at 2/3 to2/4 her first season had a good year so carnt complaneto much good look inthe new season dave

i've updated the lost gyr/saker thread,

I bought the harris to keep down the rabbit population, with the occational hare and pheasatn thrown in. still thinking of a name along the lines of harriet lol.

But she's a credit to her breeder and trainer, just gona take me awhile to build some muscle and take her weight! like a lump of lard she is, and she's actually keen at 2lb 14!!!!! Im still mesmerized by the feet, they are thick, chucky but gentle. considering calling her Isla after a golden eagle - so much like her lol.

what do ppl think of a name? I need idea's lol, something that short and snappy, lady like and sounds big if u get what i mean?

gone for Isla, so its Isla the harris hawk. suits her, she's big enough lol. keen at 2lb 14....i wont get over it. its not a record but her feet are so big lol.

sorry to confuse you (again) but I've gone for Morag as a name, female, big, strong and smart.

She's absolutly fab lol.

Took her to devoted (evening church event) just to see what she's like with cars, crowds, loud music and general hustle and bustle. Got to say, np whatsoever! There from 6:30 till 9:45 - what a manning session lol. She was off my ist for a total of 15 mins - and my arms is killing me lol. she's a heavy so an so!!!

She was on other people fist's, did a jump from my fist to another guys fist infront of a 100 ppl and noseyed round the equipment. Slept through 1/2 hour, one foot up (very painfull!) and sat on a nother stranger's fist whilst i went to the toilet (she'd held birds before and was the other side of the dor lol) so everything was smooth, and she had fun - allowed a lie in lol.

She was at 3lb 5!! yesterday, and yes, scales correct and was flying about 5m or so.

So, im well impressed, Morags well happy and I have 10 or so people coming round to visit and get the "talk" and carry the perch to the flying field lol. Got a few more poeple joining the forum too, to learn more about falocnry and whatnot. So please be nice!!!

hiya,

she liked the singing lol, got a propper band (base, elec guitare, normal guitare, paino, drums, singers etc) and even though it was quite noisey not a bated eyelid lol. She does look a bit bigger but nothing extreme, but its her feet that are amazing! and im only 5ft 1 lol.

I've not given up, but he's definatly not round here anymore. He's moved on somewhere else but its triying to find where he's gone. Im keeping my eye open, and the locals have my number so if he does come back, i'll get him quick.

Did good yesterday and today.

Just to clarify, i made a mistake with the scales, she wasnt flying at 3lb 3 1/2, more like 3lb. Down to 2lb 14 then another drop to 2lb 12 today. It was the top that came loose then added the extra oz's, but i've secured that so it wont make her look fat again lol. I will buy another pair soon, because my set is too light for her, she can topple it easier.

so yesterday, a brieft training coming the 25/30m in my garden, no probs, fed up with just the 2 chicks and the beef tid bits so she's loose a bit more weight for tomorrow as i wanted to head down the field.

today, popped on scales, 2lb 12 5/8, very quick today, even though it was her first time down there. We used a new field i got permssion for, very very flat and brill for the creance as it doesnt snag as much. so came 7 times, bit of noseing around the first couple times but was soon to check on where i was and come as soo as i held the glove up and shouted.

but i think im going to have to just stick to creance till she's finished moulting or just put her in the aviary and let her moult alone as she's dropped 2 decks and a feather on the sunday too. 5 in 3 days lol. no tail bell now, as she's dropped that, a shame lol.. your updated, right now she's sitting on her bow and being content and happy lol.

hiya,

weighed in at 2lb 12 5/8. Had a big Sis (Rachel) helping out, came down and we flew her between us, full creance and making sure we were into the wind. Had some onlookers watching her, she didnt give one, even as the cars, vans and tractors went past.

she does bate now when i go out, she's bowing, getting ready for the off. She growls when i go to pick up, I think she's starting to associate the glove with food so I've stopped feeding her off the fist for jump ups. Or i pick her up with no fist, replace on perch then jump to food. Dont know why but that seems to work.

But today, she was coming beofre I'd got my fist out, she was very gentle though when landing and always checking on me and my sis to check where she's going next. Very cool. Rach was very happy, and the people who own the land had a nosey aswell, still have to pursuede them to have a quick fly lol.
