i've got a travel box that needs varnishing and a door catch fitting.made from a frame of planed pine,ply lined.
made as a smaller box for my mhh-but it's too small! would suit ;barn owl,spar etc??????
2o in. high/18 in. wide/15 in. deep

hi sharp, in what way was it too small? im makign that thats 20 high 16 wide and 18 deep,its slightly bigger than the one i currently have, i can go any higher than 20iches or the cover wont go over in the boot

How high is your perch going to be Sean ? then add the height of your harris - 20 " doesn't leave a lot of room.

Then look at the depth (20" depth minimum), you need the perch in the center of the box for 2 reasons -

1) It can lift it's tail to mute.

2) Doesn't bang it's head on the door whilst your driving the car, braking/accelerating and going round corners.


Why not put the hawkbox on the back seat of the car ?

cheers mate i think ill go with 20 inch deep. dont want to be putting on the back seat as people will see it. last year his box was 18inches high and he fitted in it ok, with a couple of inches to spare. ill let you know how i get on anyway :)

I would have done you a swap lol, I need a small box for my kes, but made a huge box when I was looking after a big fhh a few years ago. on second thoughts I still use the huge box as a night box for the kes when its very cold in winter, its big enough for her to have a party in there :roll:
