At the risk of asking a really dumb question, does anyone know of a supplier of leather shock washers to use on leashes?
I want to make my own gear but can't seem to find a supplier.
Or do you make your own washers?
Sorry for being a complete dunce in advance!!

would you not just use the wad punches ued for making holes for eyelets. They come in really big sizes and then punch out the middle for your leash. Just a thought or else draw round something the right size and cut. You can try the thick rubber washers would depend how much your bird plays with them.

I personally make my own; I tend t use an old belt, stamp out the 20 - 25mm disk, then punch out the centre hole depending on the thickness of your leash.
You don't always need a washer, it depends on the size of the ring in the swivel..............................

One of the best places to get cheap punches from is either market stalls or at some of the country/craft fairs. No need to buy expensive ones especially the big ones for washers ; stamp 25 out and that should last you for ages, unless you've got loads of birds!!!:P

I use a 20 or 25mm hole saw and an old belt.Make sure the belt is tight or the speed of the drill will twist the belt round. The pilot drill bit makes the leash hole,:)

the leather washers on leash's were not used a shock absorbers, they are used so that when you inspect your leash and it has worn near the button you put a leather washer on there for changing the postion the swivel and the leash meet, giving you extra use out of your leash.Q

I'd rather bin a worn leash and make a new one; safer by far! :D
