A friend of mine received a telephone call around 5pm today regarding a bird of prey on a chicken in North Berwick. He made his way to the farm and the bird had left the chicken and was sitting on a fence post with a half crop.It had eaten part of the head and neck.
The guy reckons it was a female peregrine/ lanner. He has flown a number of falcons including peregrines and lanners so he is likely to be spot on with his identification. The bird was wearing a tailmounted Luksander transmitter with yellow tape around the cap and it also appeared to have leg bells on. He got very close but was unable to get his hands on it. It landed about half a mile away in some trees where it probably settled for the night.
He is on 173 frequency with his telemetry but received no signal.
There was a strong north wind today so it would have taken no time for the falcon to travel across the water from Fife.
Any body any ideas as to who may have lost this bird which appeared in good condition PM for contact details.
