what exactly are "sugar gliders" are they a type of flying chipmunk? or just a posh hamster?

They are a mammal subspecies- marsupialia, they look similar to flying squirrels though difference being squirrels are from rodent family.

Seems as though me plans gone up the wall ,
I went this pet shop today to get the sugar gliders so he was supposed to open at 9am ,i waited till 9.05am and gently knocked on the window ,he just nodded at me so some other customers came up and knocked at the door with no reply to open ,9.20am came and he opened the doors so i started clapping in a joking way and the scouse dick head started saying he was closing the shop ,ive never met a more arrogant man in all me life ,i had urges to smash the shop up ,but walked away he lost over £300 the nit ,
Must of been a sign as not to buy them off him .

old thread i know but i keep sugar gliders myself i have 2 pairs and 2 joeys about 3 months OOP they are lovely animals and i wouldnt be without them, for a breeder if anyone is still looking then it depends where you are located and there seems to of been a glider joey boom atm so there is a bit of a waiting list on alot of breeders lists. the going rate for pairs at the moment is about £250 ish, a young lady named Marie in shropshire breeds gliders and she has about a 6 month waiting list heres here link
http://www.shropshire-exotics.co.uk/

i do know of some other people they are hobby owners and breeders if you would like to get some other contacts give me a PM and i will see if i know anyone local to you.
If you are thinking of purchasing gliders though i would strongly recommend a same sex pair unless you are prepaired for the WORST case scenario of a rejected joey that you will have to hand rear, gliders have to be kept in at least pairs they cannot live alone unless you have the time to spend a good 12 hours or more with them every day they suffer from depression which can result in death if they lack the bond and attention they require from either you or another glider. trace gave you some great links to caresheets they cant be faulted

it all depends on the pair and age about how often they breed mine are quite young in breeding terms and the pair old enough to breed have twins just starting to eat on there own and mum and dad were mating again about 2 weeks ago so i expect she has or will have shortly another one or 2 joeys in pouch. but yes they do breed alot and you have to be prepaired to "pull" the joey if it comes to it times out of 10 you dont need to but there is always that chance it will happen. our gliders (pair one) are called eccles and nikki (pair two) are called blue bottle and fenella and the twin joeys do not have names as they are going to there new home in a few weeks.

they really are lovely animals though i wouldnt be without them i love the fact that i walk in there room and one of the little monsters always makes a beeline for my head and sits there eating a locusts or mealworm (not nice) :)
