With this new added tax increase, how are they going to implement it?
I've just looked at my log book (registration doc) and it doesn't mention that my vehicle is a 4x4!!! Just says 7 seater estate:yawinkle:

Also, mine is a switchable 4x4; road use it is strongly recomended that the car is driven in 2 wheeled drive and only switch to either 4x4 hi or low ratios when specifically on off road conditions.

As for gas guzzlers, my tank holds 66lts. I get an average of 3-400 miles on a 'tank', my fuel light comes on when I'm down to about 20lts. The most I've ever put in on one go is 45 litres!!!

i was a bit happier, all cars over 2.5 maybe not 4x4 but over 2.5 should have been road tax;d 800 quid a yr :D

unless their Lpg of course

and to decrease pollution and congestion one home should be allowed max 3 cars only

motorways will be less busier

any cars over 5 or 6 yrs should be crushed like in japan and should be cheaper to replace with new ones if i was prime minister
and all rough area;s and drug area's would have curfews past 8 pm lol

i shall cut crime by 3/4

It should really be done on emissions- faireast way because the newer engines are getting a lot better, even on off roaders. I reckon he's done it to make the manufacturers clean up their act but of course its the motorist that gets hit - as usual !!

The rate of vehicle excise duty applied to any car or light goods vehicle is dependent upon when the vehicle was first registered or, for those registered after 1 March 2001, the official CO2 emissions figure.

The thrilling details can be found here: http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/taxation.htm

It is only going to be implemented to start with for brand spankin new 4x4's.
Might not be added to older vehicles. the hilux i use shouldnt be added as it is not new.

4x4 is classed as that even if it is changable to 2 wheeled drive. As having a vehicle is 4 wheeled drive on road increases fuel consumption and puts a straine on the extra prop and diff if used 4 long journeys. So vehicle companies invented the 2 wheel option originally so it was economical.

They are also trying to implement free and lower tax for small cars tht have low emmisions.
Ive had to learn this **** in environmental law today and it amazed me tht they say this is done to help the environment, well the environment minister uses a dirty old jaguar wen given the choice of a toyota prius witha dual battery disel engine.
By the way all the ministers where offered a rangerover Prius and Jags and most choice the prius. Shows how he environment minister thinks, and her excuse was if there was a terrorist attack he could get away quickely. hmmmm i wonder... who would want to kill the environment minister beckett.

Hope this helps Jimmy

Band G only applies to vehicles registered after on or after 23 March 2006.

Get a pickup truck; only a £5 increase in vehicle excise duty due to it being taxed as a commercial vehicle.

ok, have i read this correctly, my 95 discovery will be £175 for a years tax? as its old?
its difficult to see how they work it out, what if i had a brand new TDV6 discovery or say a 2004 TD5? what would i have to pay then?

i can understand the likes of farmers i.e moaning as the 4x4 is what they require but for normal every day folk who never need to go on a field with their 4x4 thats who should be paying the extra tax ???? and the woman who own the bloody things and carnt park or drive them ??

I totally agree but most of these people CAN afford the extra so it doesn't bother them; look at all the X5 BMW's or the Porsche Ceyenne's, 99% of them will never see a field let alone drive over one!!!!

I have access to my farm land where I shoot and fly 24/7, 365 days a year. I personally go off road at least 5 times a week; if they put an inclusion about 'going off road' in the vehicles everybody would be pestering the land owners to get a letter to say that they regularly use his land!!!

I think that if it is to do with a job or lifestyle, then those people should be exempt. If they don't use the vehicle for what it was designed for, they should either be made to pay for the priveledge or get rid.

I can't find the page that you could click on and type in your vehicle; it then told you what the emmissions are and what band it was in!!!!!

If I do find it, I'll post it up:lol:
