What rats do u feed [Archive] - Falconry Forum (IFF)

Ok i see on honeybrook that they do loads of sizes, but what is teh best to feed. is weaner rats a different type of rat or just very small rat. i just got the cheapest price for rats here, £24 for 20 rats at 120-150 g, i know its expensive btu its the best i can get, what do use think of this size. also do any of you get from honeybrrok at the fair? i was thinking about it on the last day, but it will be 6 or 7 hours journey home, will it be melted or are they well packed

I usually buy large weaner rats from Honeybrooks, it takes at least two days to get them to Shetland and they arrive still frozen!

Large rats from Honeybrook and they are delivered with all the other stuff we buy from them in their freezer van.

is large rats as nutritional as small ones? what do you like of weaner rats skeld?

sean there large rats a realy big .too much for one meal for mhh unless you cut them up .but i would recommmend small rats for you or large weaner rats
as there a better size for some one who as one hh.alot less waste.
there large rats are ideal for say a pair of birds feeding a clutch of young.
or large birds ie eagles eagle owls.

Sean, as Talon says I buy them because the size suits me, I can't remember exactly but I think they have higher vitamin content than adults. I'm sure sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Just checked in Raptor Nutrition by Forbes & Flint which states the younger the rat the higher the vitamin content.

I used to get rats 240-250 gm frozen just run the hack saw through them
The bone is better quality in the older rat for calcium especially for young
bops,though fresh are better less smell you could nearly feed them from the glove
