Hello!
I was just nosying around, does anyone have information and pictures of these birds?
All the info I got was they weigh 14lb, latin name Pithecophaga jefferyi, 6 1/2 wingspan and lay one egg a year.
I thought this was a good link lol. www.alibata.org/ alibata_index.html
only found one pic of them in captivity www.lindberghfoundation.org/ history/photo3.html .I've only used google. There's a foundation for them aswell, still sifting through the site.
my Q's are:
Have they been used in falconry or are they too rare to get hold of?
Would they be any use in falconry?
What are they like temperment wise?
Usual stuff like weights?
Thanks,
Han

Hi Hannah,
They are fantastic looking birds as are most eagles. A couple of things that I know about them: they are very rare, possibly only 200 left in the wild making it the worlds most endangered eagle, they only breed every other year, raising 1 chick and pretty big aswell, standing about 1mtr. tall.
Try and get hold of the dvd by the bbc called 'Eagle' its in their wildlife specials series, there is film coverage of them in their forest habitat.
All the best:D

Have seen some footage, of these , taken out of a avairy in singapore manned, trained and flown, they are very rare, if they are found in the forests as clearing continues, a team will go in to trap them , and are held mainly in some of the larger zoos, around the world for captive breeding purposes. As far as I know Steve Ford is the only person to have flown them, twenty years ago, for filming purposes, he told me one of the hardest tasks, was walking thro the camp in the morning, with the eagle cut down was, hanging on to the bird, while lots of small children jumped about around him!!!
