A soft-walled zip-up w/perch in a lightweight aluminum frame. Easily washed and light as hell to carry. To wash, you just unzip and peel off the blue exterior (or line it w/newspaper if u don't want to do that too much).

Takajo,
I like it!! The only problem I see is if you have a agressive bird and they try to get out. The Red that Tasha has would probubly have the front all full of holes. But that would work great for a hooded Gos. Where do you get them made?

The talons slide off the material. No holes. But after zipping down, the bottom of the flap can be lifted by an aggressive bird in theory. After one year of use (I have one aggressive Harris that still can't get out) no problems yet.
As long as you keep the windows cracked, no overheating problems...
Isaac in Japan's mate makes them. Japanese prices are too high for most people overseas once they see how expensive they are. This one's 325 bux (100+pounds)
The poo is also difficult to clean off the velcro bits. Those are the only negatives I can think of....
If yer bird's overly aggressive, it's easy enough to secure the zippers, though. They won't punch holes in the material, though....

I have a raptorbox traveling box, they are great boxes with only one complaint, they can topple over easily, so watch those corners and secure the box in the car, I learnt from my mistake first trip out

Isaac in Japan's mate makes them.

I'll have to tell him that there's interest in them. But it seems like shipping to another country would make them more trouble then they're worth. Maybe I'll take some with me next time I head back to the States...

Hiya again mate - what box you get will depend on what sort of style and functionality you preffer, I like the plastic ones but prefer the sterdyness of the wooden ones myself. falcon fabrications boxes are great and a bit cheaper (i think) than raptorboxs' and i have to agree with mr colin that raptor box ones will easily topple over so you'll need to be carefull, personally i found the guy at raptorbox helpfull at first but very unrelyable and dicked me and some people i know around something chronic (and i was willing to pay jus under a grand for a custom setup on my truck). but you may have a different exp with him.

I make wooden ones if you're interested, heres a couple of pics of mine. hope this helps.

I like your box ,looks like it does the job well.I bought a Raptor box,but am disapointed with it.It needs to be strapped in the car as it will topple over and I also got messed around by the chap.I am thinking of putting some form of screed in the bottom to make it more usable

I have used the raptor boxes and the toppling over was a big problem.
Having now had several sizes from Martin Underwood at Falcon Fabrications I have to say the ones by raptor box just don,t compare.
Martin can be contacted on www.falconfabrication.co.uk or on 07971408921.
Ps I am not on commission. His boxes are very good and cheaper than raptor box.

also the air holes are at the top and I think it would have been better for them to be at the bottom, it will stop bating in the box if your bird is unhodded. Just my opion which may be wrong

Screed may help mate altho it'll add to the weight of the box tho. Seems alot of people have been messed about by the raptor box chap, personally i'd go with falcon fabrications if i were to get a plastic one.

Cheers mate, just made it to suit what i wanted, can make any shape/size to order if needed. best bit is that little to no light at all gets into the box due to the way i've done the air vents. If you want one built mate make sure i have plenty of notice as i'm gonna be real busy this summer.

Depends on what sorta size box you want mate, and also if you want a standard one or something a bit flashier..... making one for a friend next week and i'm burning all sorts of design onto it for him as he likes his equipment to look unique, as do i to a certain degree. I dovetailed mine by hand as i wanted the extra strength plus i like the decorative look of it, but that takes longer to do. since i make everything by hand it's not mass produced so can only do so many things at once hehe best thing to do is for us to have a chin wag at some point and talk about what sort of finish, shape, size, perch etc..... you want and i'll sort a price out for exactly what you want.

It wouldn't hurt mate, altho most breeders ask for you to book birds in advance to avoid dissapointment, some breeders also like to hang on to the birds a couple of extra weeks to try and avoid screaming altho in my opinion if a bird is going to scream it will do, espesially harris' hehe also don't worry about having to find someone local, i know it can be handyer but there are alot of dodgy breeders out there who'll quite happily sell you inferior birds for an overrated price (also alot of good ones too). i travelled to monmouth to martin jones' to pick my FHH up even tho there were closer breeders. Is distance a problem bud?

These plastic type boxes are definately the way to go ,from a hygiene and health point of view. The smooth finish is also a lot easier on the feathers if your bird is restless in the initial stages.
That brings another point which may have been covered before.
Get your bird used to travelling from the word go and they will learn to accept it as a routine part of everyday life.
All the best.

This isnt fair lads. I got well bollocked for putting up a few pictures of bags I made on this forum. I was told that a few complained because I wasnt a site sponsor. I hope you are all site sponsors.
If not, then I am disappointed, considering one of you is a mod.
Are there rules for some and rules for others?

Exactly. We're only recommending boxes.
Also with the Japanese plastic boxes near the beginning of the thread, there are holes at the top, but even though my bird is an aggressive one, after a month in it there was no more rustling about. In a car, light comes from the sides, and holes on the top tend to vent out excess heat. What thinks ye all on that approach?

Jemina Parry-Jones in "Training Birds of Prey" gives dimensions of boxes which she recommends as being especially suitable for transporting untrained /sick birds.Has anyone made or used one of these. If so, what is your opinion and is it worth while having one made?
