Hi Dave,

I'm not a breeder, but have a female and a male Harris Hawk together at the moment, the male belongs to a mate in the YFC and the 'breeding chambers' on my back garden.

Both birds are have been flown hard for four seasons and both are excellent hunters, both will be flown again after the moult (hopefully they'll breed) and if they rear anything I'll be happy for the experience.

Thought long and hard about the enviroment to breed in and though i know my females steadier than a rock and would have had no problems in an open enviroment the males less so with strangers, so they are in a sky-light, with a small window over looking fields.

Steve.

Yes i am interested in how folks will be breeding as well as i am looking for a 2006 male Harris Got one on order with a chap on here he knows who he is well he should do for the amount of times i have rung him lol. But if all fails with the breeding of is Harris this year would like to be able to pick from what i would consider a reputable breeder someone who breeds Harris hawks not for just the financial gains but some person that thinks of is reputation is birds will carry (GOOD QUALITY BIRDS) Don't want to sound as if i am being disrespectful to any breeders on here. I know this will be my 1st bop don't want to sound and come across as if i know it all because i am the 1st to hold my hands up and admit i don't but i now know a lot more than when i first joined the forum and decided i wanted to take up the art of hawking. Got a very experienced falconer who is on this forum at hand who i work with and a very good forum member also that is helping me along 100%. So if you would post details on what you put into your Harris hawks to get good quality young out of them diet supplements if needed etc and whatever else it takes to produce good young would appreciate cheers Jon..

I breed my harrises in a 20x12ft enclosed avairy, i think this is the best way and dont touch the young till they are 20 weeks or older i like to let mine go around 25 weeks as there is less chance of screaming.
I would hold longer if asked if you let go young at 12 weeks you are asking for trouble. You will find breeders getting rid of birds young as they want to save money on food. I have cameras over nest platform and one looking all over the avairy so you never have to go in.
Both my birds are hunted as i like to get them out no point in sitting in an avairy if you have time to fly them.

I also am a first time breeder and have a 12ft deep 25ft long and 10ft high chamber. My birds are both nine and put together for the first time. They have hunted together for two years. They are copulating up to about 30-40 times a day and have a fair size nest built. Starting video tomorrow with closed circut tv.The hen does very little work on the nest and the male just loves it when I add another stack of material for him to build with.
