I used to have a Falcon Lighthunter, brilliant little toy; then I got a Theoben .25 FAC; then came the Anschutz .22 rimfire, Tikka .222, Remington 700 .243 and a Baikal semi-auto 12g FAC.
.22 rimmy excellent alround bunny basher out to 80 yards normal, 150 max.
.222 unless a head shot, turns rabbits inside out; right out to 200 yards, dogs danglies on 'charlie' out to 250 yards:supz: , then there's the .243...................................you can imagine the mess it makes on rabbits at any distance but fox and deer, again spot on. I also 'roll' my own ammo!!!!

I have a few airguns too, namely a BSA Meteor, an HW30, an HW45 (airpistol), an HW80 and a Diana 45. The former three are 0.177cal and the latter two are 0.22 cal. Then in shotguns, I have a Spanish DBBL shotgun (12 bore, 32" barrels, half and full chokes), a Jeffery DBBL shotgun (12 bore, 32" barrels, half and full chokes) and a Russian Baikal shotgun (12 bore, 28" barrels, half and full chokes). In rifles, I have a CZ Model 2 0.22cal rimfire (bolt action), a Winchester Model 54, 30-06 cal (bolt action), a Winchester Model 70, 30-06 cal (bolt action) and Jeffery DBBL 450/400 Nitro Express big game rifle.
I have shot the most with my Meteor, have had it since it 1986 and retired it only in 1998 after I got the HW80. Nowadays, I mostly use the 0.22 rimfire to shoot hawk food, it has open sights, and with Eley subsonic ammo its as quiet as a mousef@*t.
The 30-06s are for hunting bigger game such as wildboar and ibex, while the shotguns are for partridge, duck and quail. For hare, I have a couple of gosses.

I would go for a Falcon Lighthunter time and time again; accurate, under rated compared to the over priced Theobens, Loguns etc.
Excellent piece of kit. Wish I still had my one. Used to shoot pheasant regularly with it as well as the regular rabbits, pigeons and corvids.
I only had the FN12, with a BSA 6 x 24 x 50 scope.
Hope this helps.

saker ;) what can i say over the years ive had many guns air rifles both spring and gas and the falcon light hunter is a bang on gun ,light and acurate as some of the air rifles these days are to heavy and i wouldnt fancy carrying them for a few hours and ive taken out loads of rabbit ,pheasant ,pigeon ,duck and sqwirrel without any probs and at some very good distances too :supz:

at the moment with filters on the logan lamp, but want to get a night vision, scope. Far better than the air arm I think. Accuracy, and build quality. I hate things that are made of plastic. on the other side of the scope i have the BSA light and lazer. ( shot moving bunnies from the hip with this)

The length of the barrel; I personally wouldn't go for the 8 inch; the 19", I recon will be ideal for all round performance.
The 12" that I had was cracking but I always thought that having such a short barrel, the distance and accuracy at longer ranges would suffer!!!! Having said that, I was taking quarry at 45 yards.

nice one clive as you can see from my first pic ive got the long 19 inch barrel ?? and have taken a rabbit out at 80 yds and im not bullshitting as my mate was with me and said not a chance but i took it out and we paised it out ,he shoots with the rapid 7 nice gun but abit heavy ??? look at the weight of the light hunter 4lbs and a few oz compared to most gun which average 6/7 pounds ???:supz:

I agree, my Theoben .25 fac was zeroed at 80 yards but it was 40 ft/lbs:supz:
As long as people understand how the 'projectile' flies, the hold over and under can soon be learnt and used to its best advantage. To kill a rabbit it only takes 3-4 ft/lbs of pressure in the head.

I use an HW 95K which I find effective for fur - rabbit/rat and woodpigeon/corvid etc... It has good accuracy, power for a break barrel spring air rifle, good build quality and lighter than the 97, although still a little on the heavy side compared to some.

cometa .22 with 3-9x50
does the job an knocks down rooks crows and pigeons but a pain in the **** coz its a springer
looking into precharge now may not have to accomodate recoil then :D
Dave G
03-04-2006, 10:00 AM
i would agree the precharged guns are much better as the spring guns are louder and by the time they have been recocked the rabbits have stuck their two fingers up and run off :butthead:
