Hi this is my first post on here.:) I have been interested in bop right from a little boy. They have alway fascinated me,how they look so graceful when soaring but yet so devastating at the same time.Have many good memorys of watching common Buzzards growing up sat next to my dad in the tractor.Animals act as they normally would around tractors.I have seen Buzzards take seaguls, pigeons, rabbits, mice, even worms from behind the plough when times were hard.
I know that everyone says start off with a hh.I really want a common buzzard.I know the common buzzard is a bird thought of easy to train but hard to get to hunt. But i am really determined to put in the extra time and effort that may be required to get it to hunt successfully. Its like me and the common buzzard have some sort of connection.I'm sure some of you feel the same way about your bird or a certain type of bird.
Before i get anywhere near owning one myself i am going to buy some books and read up on them. Most importantly find a club or person who would be willing to let me come along and see how its done and ask questions.Even get some hands on?
In the future i also plan to go on a course i was thinking of going on a five day course in Devon. As i don't think theres any places in Dorset that does courses?
So if theres anyone out there from Dorset who would like to give a fellow aspiring Falconer a helping hand into the sport?I would be most greatful:)

Hey Dave,
Gald you found the forum. There is nothing wrong with starting with a buzzard! If you can get it hunting all the better. Sounds like you have a good plan going. Hope you find some useful info on here. Let us know how things go. And keep asking any questions you may have!!

Hi Dave
Welcome to the Forum
Where abouts in Dorset are you ? I have a MRT and its my first year owning my own bird but if want to have a chat then PM me and I'll give you my number. Buzzards are fine although they can be a bit lazy hence the 'harder to train' bit. If you think about any carrion feeder its really going to sit there unitl something runs past its feet or soar unitl it spots an easy dead meal !! Now is the best time of the year to start looking for your bird although by what you say your justing starting to think about owning a bird so it might be better to do the course, read the books and visit some places to see whats out there. The Hawk Conservancy at Andover isn't too far away from us and I've heard their courses are good.
Best of Luck

A little update on my progress.I have been emailing and checking out various different courses and have decided to go with Yaraks. Not going to be able to get the money up for awhile.I have also brought two books. After doing a search on this forum the books i went for are.
Nick Fox Understanding the bird of prey.
Emma Fords Falconry:Art and practice.
