The new policy of Forum moderators attempting to criticise/discipline members posts by the use of negative rep is something that would not have been out of place during the Cultural Revolution in China.
In attempt to make this forum more newbie-friendly we have had to endure censorship, heavy-handed moderation and an overtly politically-correct stance against any post that is deemed to offend against Party, sorry...FORUM, doctrine. If things continue at the present rate I fear this forum will degenerate into a pale imitation of a Chinese Communist Party rally with the cadres, i.e. moderators, indoctrinating the masses and all dissent and differing points of view ruthlessly quashed.
Just bear this quote in mind: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." Francois Voltaire 1694-1778

Hi M8......As a Mod I feel I have to answer your post but the picture is not as dark as you think it is.
During the time I have been a Forum member I have seen this place rock with laughter at some of the things being said but at the same time another post is degenerating into abuse and threats. I for one want this Forum to be good for all of us and we have to realise that some of our Kids view what is going on so we have to strike a happy medium, I am sure you will agree that the Forum is a better place now than it was just a few weeks back, most of the back stabbing has ceased and some good threads are being posted even in the correct sections as well.
This is not the Communist party as you sugest it is a Falconry Forum and discussions related to falconry are what we are trying to get, some good threads have been destroyed because people go off topic or even worse when someone disagrees with another post it would be far better for them to disagree and say why they disagree rather than start to call another member every name under the sun.
Moderators do not or should not jump on any post that is getting a heated debate going but we will step in when it comes to bullying, constant swearing and personal abuse.
I hope you can sit back and look at this from an objective point of view and you may see it in a better light, we get a lot of visitors to the site and we have no idea who they are or what they are looking for they could be journalists or anti's even MP's we simply don't know who is looking at us and what we say on here is how they will formulate a picture of Falconers in general, with the current climate in Government looking to ban hunting we have to show ourselves in the best possible light and not as a bunch of foul mouthed beer swilling lunatics that don't give a monkies about laws and public safety.
I hope this helps in your search for freedom from the Communist Party

Dont forget this is something that always has been possible, and also not only by moderators, anyone can add positive or negative reputation to a post, not only moderators.....

I agree, i also think its far better to agree/dissagree with a post/thread via the rep option... it dont clog up the threads its self with these very same comments

Well I don't! If a mod wishes to take umbrage with anything posted, I would prefer they had the courage to do it via pm or on an open thread; where the recipient can at least reply to any such criticism. A little too much Blair-style authoritarianism has become only too common on this forum in recent weeks. Mods are supposed to moderate, not act as a drumhead courts martial. Lighten up, this forum is being stifled by political correctness and over-moderation. In this, I do not mean the deletion of posts containing abuse, profanity etc; nothing wrong with removing that kind of stuff at all. Any forum is a dynamic evolving and, sometimes, a regressing organism. Many people, many differing opinions and all in a state of flux. Why the recent desire to try to create an online utopia? Too much control destroys imagination and creativity.

Renton m8, From what I understand the forum had become a bit of a battle ground, I think that perhaps what you would call "Overmodding" was neccessary to whip the forum into shape! I am sure that things will mellow out a bit now we have all had our feathers clipped! ;-)

I sincerely hope so! Although, I have deep reservations as to where this forum is being driven. I'm off to Belgium tomorrow, until Monday evening; so the forum will not be troubled by the one and only dissident for a few days. Don't go too far down the Shining Path in the meantime! :D

That is a well written quote.......but honestly in the scheme of things it's not entirely true is it.....I have had the exact same number of rows as I had BEFORE the moderators came in, read the same cyclical arguments and generally enjoyed myself.............I have also learnt a modicum as well.
