Hey people,
I live in Abu Dhabi, which is in the United Arab Emirates. This place has a rich history in falconry, and it is still widely practiced all over the country---by royalty and common-folk alike.
In Abu Dhabi alone we've got 2 falcon shops that I know about, as well as falcon hospitals, a falcon research center, a local falconry club, occassional falconry exhibitions----not to mention that it is a part of the migration route, so we have a lot of wild falcons coming through the area.
A good place to be for someone who is interested in falconry.

Hello,
You'll have to forgive me as my geography of the UAE is not very good, but I am going to Dubai in August and was wondering if there are any falconry schools/centres or shops there.
Many thanks

Hello Mark and welcome to the forum. Sounds like its the place to be as far as falconry is concerened. When you decide to get your bird you should have a wealth of experience to fall back on. Good luck mate.

Hey there i have just got back from Dubai. And while i was there asked the hotel if there was a falconry experience we could do. They arranged it for us and after a ride through the desert we met a guy with 3 birds. A saker a peregrine and a gyr/peregrine. I told the guy that i keep birds back in england and he let me help out by slipping his birds at the live pigeon he had just let go this was a different experience for me:rolleyes: . After about 3 mins the pigeon was dead the heat got to both birds as you can imagine at 35degrees C. Then he flew one of his birds to the lure which was a good but short flight because of the heat. Then he flew his last bird to a live pigeon lure, then after throwing the pigeon up in the air the saker went and caught it over some sand dunes. The pigeon was still alive and it stayed that way for further training with other birds different i know. I asked the man if there were any shops where i could buy equipment and he said he owned 1 and i could get all i wanted for free from there! I was standing there with a big smile on my face as he said he would give me the whole kit for my falcon.I ended up with everything but a block but i wasnt going to complain! I am going to keep in touch with him as he is interested in how falconry is done over here. So not a bad holiday:supz:

The law of the land in the UAE is that you can keep a falcon but you cannot hunt wild quarry with it unless you are a UAE national. I have lived there, but I used to travel back to Pakistan for my hawking vacations. The most common falcons that I found there in the wild were kestrels, followed by a few hobbies and red shaheens and one peregrine. Sometimes one can spot escaped falconry birds as well.
I know a few guys who give falconry demos in Dubai, one of them hails from Pakistan and the other from Bangladesh, and they both have shops in the bird market in Sharjah.

Hey guys sorry i havent posted anything over the last couple of days i have been away. Wel i say shop lol we were told to meet a guy in a shopping mall holding a falcon so we went to the shopping mall and there he was a guy with a falcon on a stand saying 'picture with falcon 10dh' As he didnt speak any english we showed him a piece of paper with his name on it and he gave me a bag with the stuff in it. I was hoping he would take me to his shop to buy some more things but seeing as he didnt speak english it wasnt worth asking lol. I will take some pics of the equipment and pot them later on

Laurie, I'm sure that there must be shops in Dubai, but I don't know where they are exactly. Dagash and Sandeep will know as they are both located there. I'm curious about that as well.
Mike, that's quite a story! The Arabs are known for their hospitality, of course, and its nice that you were able to experience that first hand. Loads of fun. Beautiful pictures as well!!!
Turumti, are you still in touch with those guys in Sharjah?? Maybe I'll go for a visit sometime.

Hi Mike,
Right country wrong location M8.
There are a few Falconry shops in Dubai but the best one is owned by a Guy called Mohammed Ali (No Boxing jokes please) the managers name is Seyed he is a really nice guy there is a picture of him on my website Photo 40 on page 1 of the Abu Dhabi & Event Gallery this was taken at the Arab Hunting Expo.
If you or any other Forum members are going to Dubai and want to see good equipment and birds just let me know and I will give you contact details.
For those that don't know Abu Dhabi is 45 mins from Dubai but there is a big problem getting in and out of Dubai at the moment and can sometimes take 2 hours to get accross the city due to the ammount of traffic. Al Ain is also worth a visit if you are into Falconry. I went to a friends wedding there an believe me that was an experiance. The Groom dragged me into the seating for the family and wanted to talk about my birds and place orders for this year, I told him to come and see me in a few days and talk to me then but he said that as I was his guest at his wedding that I had to give him good prices and in a few days he would have to pay more.
