Today we was up on a hill near me house. And what looked like a Chilean Blue eagle flew over. It was larger than a buzzard (maybe the size of a large buzzard). I really do think it was a chilean blue because of it's colourings, it had a dark head and chest (blue) and a white "belly" and top underside of wings. When the bird flew past it had dark wings.
It didn't have any jesses on well for which i could see.
Any ideas?

A chilean blue dosnt really look blue. especially when flying. and due to the shape of thei wing and especialy long secondries they look massive compared to a buzzard. not really a bird your likely to see without equipment and there are not that many in avarys. that i know of anyway. keep an eye out and let us know if you see it anymore

I think the easiest identification of a Chilean in flight is the tail and the wings alsmost meet together forming a big triangular shape....unmistakable outline :!: Had one years experience of watching and sometimes handling a Chilean..... they are very distinctive.

They look very different to a common buzzard ....the leading edge line of the wing is also different.

Remember common buzzards can come in every colour morph from almost white to near enough black and everything inbetween!

I have been looking atn pictures on the internet and i am pretty sure that it was 1. I know buzzards come in different colours etc but this was no buzzard. It had more of a distinctive shape. I would say it was an eagle. But not 100% what type. If anybody has any pictures of an eagle from the underneith i would be very greatful.
