Does any one breed them over here? if not why? they have got to be one of the most suitable hunting eagles for the semi enclosed english terrain and noone every seems to say anything bad about them???

In South Africa we, (not that I did) used to fly them at jack rabbits a sort of hare, we do not have rabbits like here in the UK. How do they handle them compared to a Gos if you have flown hares with them?

Bernard

they handle them a bit better than a gos my female does strange things she as never tried to eat anything she catches as soon as it stops moving she gets of also if she thinks she cant get it by the head she grabs its rear and flicks it over.
i come to devon on holiday twice a year you have to come flying with me so you can see how she flies mate.

Even though I wont be getting one these birds they sound as though they are a great bird. I would just like to ask how much are they as my curiosty is working overtime and do you think they will become more available in the future in Britain? assuming there is not that many around in the Uk.

Cheers Joe

Rob Griffiths is breeding African Hawk Eagles in Wales. They are £6000. I believe the two birds at Lakeland were also Rob's and he has now taken them back to Wales for breeding. I hope they don't mind me saying, but Falcon Mews have plans for African Hawk Eagles too and if anyone will get them producing they will, so all in all they should very quickly become more available and less expensive.

Sandeep,

I spoke to some falconers from Africa some years ago, and according to them, the Bonelli's can be flown rather successfully at hare at night time with the help of a strong spotlight.

Having said that, obtaining a passage Bonelli's has become to the quest for the Holy Grail for me, seen many haggards birds from established breeding pairs, but no passage birds yet.

Hi Salman

I have seen 3 nesting pairs in HYD quite close to each other. One nested in a tree, one in a rocky cliff and the third in a electric cable. The last one being the biggest nest I had seen. If you remember the video you and I saw at my house in Dubai was of the last pair.

The bonellis population in HYD seems quite healthy... I just wanna try lamping....I may get lucky some day..
