Sorry it's not a new weight loss program lol

Hatchability rates are said to increase with a period of 10 days natural incubation before eggs are placed into an incubator. If this is undertaken then what do people do when trying to work out how much weight the egg should lose through artificial incubation, as you effectively lose 10 days or so and don't know how much the egg weighed origionally.

Is there a calculation or equation that is used to estimate the weight of the egg at the point of lay?

Cheers,

SH

With my spar and goshawk eggs I try to get a fresh egg weight on each egg, as it's laid , then record and number egg before putting them back in the nest. There will not be a big difference in weight loss in 10 days and you'll still have plenty of time to adjust after putting them in the inc.

From fresh weight the egg should lose 15% of its weight which works out roughly 1/2% a day.Hope this is some help to you.

I have been measuring the eggs with caliper then width x width x length x 0.0005474 = fresh weight ........ but This is the first time i have incubated so I dunno but thats what i wuz told to do

why not get your self on Terrys incubation course on the 22nd

Oh there are also a couple of pc programs that do it for you

There is a formula in practical incubation as far as I remember. Could you put under bantams to get your natural incubation coz they are easy to monitor then?
