Hi people
I had an idea for a home made perch.
If I turn a post on a lathe then cut a recess in the top I can slot a piece of chunky car tyre into the top giving an uneven but slightly cushioned surface.
the whole thing would come apart then to be cleaned if needed.
does that make sense and does it sound like a good idea?

I do not see why it will not work, but Astro turf may be easier, look better and will most certainly be safer, as the tyre may have steel wires in it?

Just get a large log and stick astro turf on as hawkmaster said .
Its worked for me ,im going the fair soon and hoping to get a few block perches for my owls .
All the best

Owls always do better free lofted and should only be tethered for health reasons or temporily. In which case if it is a EO you want a good quality heavy perch. Got a EEO when flying weighs 3lb 12 (so he is not that big) and i have seen him move a bow perch that weighs 45lb so he can put a lot of pressure on equipment. Moulded rubber stainless steel bow perch keeps him out of trouble.

Careful GDN,
If you mention Moulded rubber stainless on here like I did, you will have all sorts of people telling you their C--P like when they rubbished mine even though as yet and I have had mine 3 to 4 years and as yet never seen the ring foul the rubber as it passes over from one side to the other lol

Thanks everyone
I am looking to only really use the perch when the owl is young and needs manning.
I'll be putting "him" on the perch as I work in the garden so that he gets much more contact than he would if just out whist training or flying.
I am however as suggested going to scrap the tyre idea and use other things.
Thanks again
Blessings
