Hello to you all.

This is only my third post but i have spent many hours and days scanning over different posts and threads.
There is a fantastic wealth of information on here but there is also some very alarming posts and threads too.
I think we all have to stick together for our sport as it is under serious threat and it worries me when i read threads like the recent Plumbrite or Neil or whatever it was thread as just crazy.Accusations flying all over the place and finger pointing by all sides.
I have no idea who neil is or why mark or saker ducker had got so heated with everything but i must say you where all willing to shoot each other?
If a moderator has to stop a thread it really is a worry.
I know like in all sports we have opinions but that thread was crazy!

But i read other posts and threads and think how knowlegable some of you are.

I hope you will not see this as a critisism but just a view from a beginner to the Forum and how i feel.

I hope i can continue to be here but do i know who i am talking too?

I think a safe distance is the way forward for a newcomer as it does seem to be a Encyclopedia or a Battleground full of cloak and Dagger.

I am not trying to single anyone out as i do not know anyone, mind you if you all gave your real names like i have perhaps i will.
Surely the Moderators can insist on Real names and not Plumbrite alias neil tom dick or Harry.

And i am NOT an alias myself i am genuinly a newcomer. And if i am accused of this then i will just leave as i want to talk about Falconry not to come on here and talk to something from Mars called Sputnikmonkeyfaceharrishawk

Kind regards to you all
Thankyou
Ian.

well that was certainly a read :D

Hi Ian and welcome to the forum! I hope you enjoy your time here!! :D

I also have my concerns over a few things, but the mods are doing a good job and the forum is being worked on so it will be even better in a few months.

I wont even comment on the Aliases if you dont mind

Do you have any birds of your own?

All the best mate, Jamie

Yes i have some HH but i have given one to an experienced falconer as my travelling takes its toll so i have just done so.
I have a Male called Rick left although i fear that he might have to go too to the same falconer. This year is going to have a lot of travelling in it so i have ruled myself out for next season but i know they will be well looked after.
So its 2007 for me next but i will get the odd session between travelling i know to fly him.

Perhaps i was Harsh on what i said but that Plum thing thread was something i have never read in all my years in Falconry. I am not one for Mixing and i do admit that i am a very private person who just enjoys my bird and myself and mother nature it makes a change from a tin tube with silver foil and a jumped up little kid smacking the back of my chair.I just want to get away from all that.
To come on a Forum is unusual for me but i really was shocked at that post. I think the American apprenticeship system should be over here and then we will not get so many birds being screwed up by idiots.

Well Tin can time, Italy Tomorrow

All the Best

The apprentice system sounds v.good i must admit, although a system is currently being put into theory in the UK (soon), so we'll just have to wait and see what goes on with that!!
All the best and have fun in Italy!!

Welcome Ian.Dont worry too much, people get very passionate about falconry and ,although I didn't see the thread you mentioned, I'm sure it was the heat of the moment. There are some incredibly knowledgeable people on the forum and I learn things constantly.Hopefully the good outweighs the not so good:yawinkle:

Hiya mate, don't worry about that thread, as you will find on here there are a few idiots, and that particular idiot was also a a liar! and tried to deceive people. You will however find that there are a lot of decent people here who will help in every way possible.

Take care

Harris

Welcome to the forum !!
I admit to getting heated over the thread you are talking about...dont do it often, but when the welfare of a bird is the subject, some times people cant help getting a bit ratty. It only happens when some one is found not to be telling the whole truth for some reason.
There is a lot of interesting stuff and a lot of ..well not quite so ...on here  depends on what you are after. Dont be scared off from asking questions tho, but it dose pay to be a bit "thick skinned" some times
All the best

welcome to the forum!! as you spend a bit longer on here youll get to know people and their attiudes towards the sport! but people feel very pasiotante about their sport! and since theres alot of variation on how things are practicied some times threrads can get a little heated! whilst ther is a good source of knowledge on here, i agree there is a lot of heated debate, but this heated debate provides knowleddge - reasons for doing things, what not say in a post, and how to grow a tougher skin!
the forums got a lot better over the last few months, and despite my early opinions on having somany mods, they are doing a fabtatsic job!!

and the post above is very true too!!

Rightly or wrongly (which most sensible people would say the latter), this field attracts a certain amount of negative opinions and publicity, and to top it all up the opposition to the sport tends to be extremists of one sort or another.

Whilst we set up this forum to help the field of Falconry in as many aspects as possible, we should also make sure that what's on here cannot be used as weapon against Falconry and the forum's members.

To that extend, I would not encourage anybody to use their real names, and never ever publish enough personal information to enable some nasty people to track somebody down through the forum.

The database behind this forum is protected as far as possible and I can say with certainty that it will not be passed on etc... but we cannot guarantee that if you post your real name, addresses.. phone numbers.. that somebody won't read it from the forum and use it in an undersirable manner!

Plus if you own a BOP and you give out where abouts you live, you can leave yourself and your birds open to a visit from some one you may not wish to call. Some birds are very valuable, not only to their owners. There are also some sick people out there who may recon your bird would be better off flying free, rather than in an aviary or moult chamber. So beware !!!!
